Central National-Gottesman's Spicers Paper Div. Buys West Coast-Based Performance Paper
PURCHASE, N.Y.–May 21, 2015–Central National-Gottesman (CNG), a leading sales and marketing organization in the global pulp, paper and forest products industry, announced that its U.S. Spicers Paper division will acquire the business of Performance Paper, bolstering its West Coast sales force and increasing its market share in Southern California.
Los Angeles-based Performance Paper, a division of CellMark, has been servicing the commercial print community in Southern California and Las Vegas for more than two decades. The company’s sales team is well known locally for its deep market knowledge and expertise in the coated, uncoated and board products used by commercial printers.
“The acquisition of Performance Paper underscores once again our commitment to strategic growth in the paper distribution business across North America,” commented Andrew Wallach, CNG president and CEO. “We believe we will continue to have many ongoing opportunities for Spicers to expand in the West, both through organic growth and via acquisitions.”
Spicers Paper is a full-service, full-line stocking merchant servicing commercial printers and corporate end users through eight regional locations in the Western United States and Hawaii.
“The acquisition of Performance Paper makes tremendous sense for Spicers as we continue to find ways to grow and add value in the commercial printing industry,” remarked Jan Gottesman, president of Spicers Paper. “This includes an expanded product offering for customers and greater market access for our suppliers.”
Performance Paper represents the ninth acquisition of a regional paper merchant since 2010 for CNG’s North American Distribution Division, and the second on the West Coast for the company. In February, CNG added Spicers Canada to its distribution division.
The transaction is expected to close June 1, 2015.
