CFC Announces Three-Phase Approach to Inkjet with Help of Océ ColorStream 3900
MELVILLE, N.Y. - February 27, 2018 - Canon Solutions America, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Canon U.S.A., announced that Texas-based CFC Print Solutions has elevated its portfolio of offerings after installing the Océ ColorStream 3900 digital inkjet press. The installation comes with a three-phase approach to inkjet that sets the print leader up for exponential growth over the next year.
In 2009, CFC Print Solutions was formed by a group of partners determined to establish a national short-run and long-run trade only printing company focused on producing checks, forms, envelopes, and other imperative business documents. These print industry veterans, who formed what is now one of the most successful print service providers in the U.S., built the business on a fundamental principle to help its customers stretch their dollars by providing great value and reliable services. With an unwavering focus on expedited turnaround times, CFC Print Solutions continues to expand its footprint and reputation, which was most recently heightened by its embrace of inkjet technologies from Canon.
While CFC's most recent acquisition of the Océ ColorStream is its most profound inkjet placement to date, the company did extensive market research about inkjet technology offerings before choosing to work with Canon Solutions America. Originally using offset jet equipment to print most of its envelope output, CFC recognized a shift in the industry and began looking at continuous feed inkjet solutions to replace its offset manufacturing capabilities.
"After speaking with Canon Solutions America about the prospect of continuous-feed and inkjet all together, I was immediately intrigued, so I took a trip to Boca Raton, Fla., to visit their Customer Experience Center and subsequently attended the annual thINK Inkjet User Conference," said Tommy Gillis, managing member at CFC Print Solutions. "What transpired was our realization that working with Canon Solutions America was the right decision, as they are both a technology and a business collaborator that could help enhance our continuous feed inkjet vision."
Once CFC Print Solutions knew it would work together with Canon Solutions America, its management team, as noted by Gillis, developed a three-phase approach that would take its company to new heights. Firstly, Gillis and his team wanted to immediately fill the inkjet press with as much dynamic and versatile work as possible. The ColorStream responded, allowing CFC to use the press as a replacement for what originally supported its core competencies.
"As part of phase one, we are in the process of taking four million billable impressions from our offset world and transitioning those to our new inkjet equipment," confirmed Gillis. "In a very short time we will be able to easily and quickly transition the majority of our offset applications to the ColorStream. By doing so, we plan to immediately boost operational efficiencies and drive cost savings as a result of the new ColorStream."
One of CFC's heightened efficiencies was the ColorStream's ability to help decrease redundancy in the production operation, which enabled the company to improve its already quick turnaround times. Equally important was the quality of the output for Gillis and his team. "The quality is at a higher standard with our inkjet press, along with the consistencies in our ink color, allowing us to essentially move all core projects to the ColorStream."
Phase 2 & 3
According to Gillis, phase 2 centers primarily around introducing direct mail, color variable print, and mail solutions to its existing customer base. "Becoming an all-encompassing mail solutions provider and enhancing those capabilities is a major endeavor," added Gillis. "With the help of the ColorStream 3900 and specifically its versatility, CFC can effectively grow to be an all-encompassing mail solutions provider."
"As experienced by CFC Print Solutions and other Canon Solutions America customers, continuous-feed inkjet can drive businesses to a digital solution that was once rendered inconceivable," said Francis McMahon, executive vice president, Production Print Solutions, Canon Solutions America. "Working together with companies like CFC, who just experienced their tenth consecutive year of growth, allows us to dramatically shift the way print service providers are adapting to Canon inkjet technology, and prepare them for even more unique opportunities in the future."
The ability to now diversify its offerings is what will lead Gillis and his team to phase 3 of their continuous-feed inkjet strategy: expanding within the commercial print environment. By utilizing the ColorStream, CFC is preparing to enhance their current portfolio of applications with the addition of booklets, magazines, posters, brochures, and a wider variety of one-to-one marketing collateral.
"Now that we have the ColorStream inkjet technology, CFC has the ability to develop even higher end commercial print offering to our customers," said Gillis. "The opportunities are boundless and we're ready to push the envelope at CFC Print Solutions both now and in the future."
