Xerox Closing Two Call Centers, 300 Jobs Axed
NORWALK, CT—Xerox Corp. is eliminating two call centers in Oregon, which will leave 300 employees without jobs, the Portland Business Journal reported. The impacted facilities are located in Coos Bay and North Bend.
The move was disclosed through a notice filed under the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act, the paper said. The layoffs are slated to begin in July. Xerox reportedly employs about 3,000 people in Oregon.
Xerox told the newspaper that the decision was based on a "change in the client's strategy and business conditions that have made it necessary to consolidate business units." Its printing business revenue slid nine percent in the most recent quarter, according to the Journal, as the company shifts to a business services model.
