Cockrell Enovation Adds a VUTEk QS2000 Grand-Format Printer to End Outsourcing
KENNESAW, GA—Dec. 4, 2012—Cockrell Enovation, one of the largest full-service commercial printing companies in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, had experienced steady growth in the franchise and retail space. It got to the point where an influx of new work—primarily signage, POP/POS and related materials—forced Cockrell to farm out grand-format projects. With the recent installation of an EFI VUTEk QS2000 high-speed, grand-format flatbed and roll-to-roll printer supplied by Heidelberg, however, the company has retrieved a welcome measure of control over scheduling, delivery times, quality and costs.
“Our customers had been asking us to become a one-stop shop for some time,” reported John Cockrell, Jr., vice president. “Since we installed the QS2000, a lot of our current customers are coming to us for the high-value work they used to go elsewhere to buy. Now we have the flexibility to produce 1-1,000 units and achieve a satisfying level of profitability, regardless of run length.”
Cockrell leveraged Heidelberg’s expertise in color management to establish appropriate color curves during installation to ensure the elements of its seasonal marketing campaign rollouts—typically a combination of signage, assorted display graphics, window clings, POP/POS and labels—would match one another when produced across the shop’s offset and digital platforms.
Cockrell’s sheetfed offset pressroom houses a six-color Speedmaster CD 74, six-color CD 102 UV and 12-color SM102 presses. The company claims to have a “great relationship” with Heidelberg, based on the “superior service and support” it has received over the years.
