Standard Printing Super Sizes
CANTON, OH—Standard Printing, a supplier in the national large-format printing field, has added a six-color, 73˝ manroland XXL printing press.
The sheetfed press, installed this winter, is now in full production. Its format is geared toward printing packaging top sheets, litho label box wraps, displays, in-store signage, oversized commercial printed materials and combination runs of smaller projects.
Standard Printing now houses 43 offset printing units, as well as two digital presses. In addition to its long tradition in package printing, Standard prints for the educational book and related materials market, as well as for general commercial clients.
10-Color Sheetfed Perfector Augments Expansion into New Facility
DALLAS—Cartamundi, a producer of card products and rising commercial packaging printer, has installed a five-over-five, 41˝ KBA Rapida 105 sheetfed perfector with full UV capabilities, coaters and a board kit at its new facility here. In business for more than 200 years, the provider of card products for casinos and the general public recently relocated into a 300,000-square-foot facility.
The customized press, equipped with multiple coaters, has been an efficient addition to the pressroom, according to U.S. operations CEO Steve Young. "It has dramatically expanded our print offerings and improved overall workflow."
FLORIDA
CLEARWATER—Print Harmony, a trade printer located here, recently installed a two-color Heidelberg Printmaster QM46 press to address customer demand for fast, high-quality one- and two-color printing, primarily business forms, letterheads and envelopes.
KENTUCKY
LOUISVILLE—Gateway Press' six-color, 40˝ Mitsubishi Diamond 3000LS sheetfed press recently printed 114,600 impressions during an eight-hour shift. The high-end commercial printer also runs small-quantity jobs on the press where its SimulChanger automated plate changing system has shortened makeready times.
MARYLAND
COLUMBIA—The American Physiological Society has awarded a four-year contract extension to Cadmus Communications, calling for the graphic communications company to provide a range of journal production services including composition, content management and printing.
MASSACHUSETTS
BOSTON—ABnote North America's new ABnote Short Run Div. is focused on servicing customers with commercial plastic card orders of 10,000 or fewer and will print quantities as low as 250. Its short run program will offer a choice of lithographically printed or digitally printed cards with a complement of stocks, options and personalization services.
MINNESOTA
RAMSEY—Plastic card manufacturer Diamond Graphics made its first investment in digital print technology—a Xeikon 5000plus digital color press to print an array of cards, including loyalty cards, gift cards, phone cards and membership ID cards.
NEW JERSEY
BURLINGTON—Barton & Cooney, a printing and mailing service provider, has installed its second Pitney Bowes FlowMaster RS Flex inserting system. It joins a Pitney Bowes FPS split drive inserting system.
WEST DEPTFORD—The Total Mailing System (TTMS) is printing 50,000 personalized postcards of support for U.S. troops stationed overseas using Xerox's "Let's Say Thanks" program. TTMS is producing the postcards on its Xerox iGen3 digital production press.
NEW YORK
ROCHESTER—Diamond Packaging has installed an eight-color, UV-capable Heidelberg Speedmaster XL 105 in a special double-coating configuration with initial flexo dispersion coater and three modular deliveries. The new machine joins a seven-color Speedmaster CD 102 UV press and a six-color Speedmaster CD 102 UV press with double coaters.
YORKTOWN HEIGHTS—Chase Press, a newly formed division of Chase Media Group that prints newspapers, shoppers and commercial work, has added a Kodak Trendsetter News thermal platesetter using Kodak PF-N non-process plates, a Prinergy EVO workflow and PREPS Plus imposition software.
NORTH CAROLINA
RUTHERFORDTON— Associated Printing & Services, a family-owned commercial printer, has installed a Screen Truepress 344 digital offset press to enhance the quality and reduce the cost of short-run color work, including runs of fewer than 5,000.
OHIO
CLEVELAND—For 117-year-old commercial printing company Watt Printers, March marked the 25-year anniversary of its current ownership. The printing firm employs 70 people at its 72,000-square-foot facility located here.
DAYTON—G7 Master Printer color expertise certification is the most recent recognition for Think Patented.
OREGON
GRESHAM—Capable of speeds to 18,000 sph, a six-color, 41˝ KBA Rapida 105 sheetfed press plus coater and direct-drive technology has been installed at Rose City Printing and Packaging's new facility located here. The operation produces a mix of specialty packaging for the 40˝ market for food and beverage customers.
TENNESSEE
MEMPHIS—The Memphis Daily News recently updated its equipment with a Kodak Trendsetter News thermal computer-to-plate system, Prinergy EVO workflow and PREPS imposition software.
TEXAS
CORPUS CHRISTI—Grunwald Printing recently upgraded its all-Heidelberg pressroom with a four-color Speedmaster SM 52 press with aqueous coater to produce high-quality short-run color and other commercial work.
HOUSTON—Texas Governor Rick Perry recently recognized Nicholas Earth Printing and its owner, Arita Nicholas, as an example of a small, minority-owned business that has helped the state create more private-sector jobs than any other state in the nation during the last decade. The firm specializes in producing brochures, posters, catalogs and direct mail, and has offices in New Jersey, North Carolina and Kansas.
VIRGINIA
WINCHESTER—Eliminating bottlenecks in the printing process was one reason Winchester Printers recently invested in a Heidelberg Suprasetter 105 SCL with Prepress Manager workflow. The automated features of the thermal platesetting system allow the full-service commercial printer to run the new unit virtually unattended.
WISCONSIN
MENOMONIE—The Graphic Communications Management Baccalaureate Program at the University of Wisconsin-STOUT has received ACCGC national accreditation.
