A 24-year employee of St. Louis Park, MN-based Japs-Olson, Chris Illa passed away July 27 after a long battle with cancer. He started in the prepress department and was promoted to several positions at the company, including director of operations.
Several new appointments have been made at Standard Register in Dayton, OH. Michael Giachetti now serves as vice president and general manager for promotional marketing. In addition, three regional managers have been named: Chandra Geschwill in the South, Brad White in the West and Joe Whitman in the Midwest.
Michael Weber has been promoted to vice president of manufacturing at Fry Communications, based in Mechanicsburg, PA. Weber joined the company in 1993.
In Burbank, CA, Flashpoint Graphix has hired Leslie Tolbert as vice president, national accounts, to further the growth of the company's retail-focused division.

Scott Rempe has been named vice president of sales for Graphic Visual Solutions in Greensboro, NC. Most recently, Rempe served as vice president and direct mail marketing manager for BB&T.
Printing and Graphics Association MidAtlantic (PGAMA), in Columbia, MD, has appointed Jay Goldscher as president of the organization. He began his career as president at Wolk Press in 1977 and most recently served as vice president of HBP.
Charlene Sims, president of The Master's Press in Dallas, has been named "Printer of the Year" by AMSP/NAPL/NAQP.
