Printer Moves from 29˝ to 40˝ Format with New Press
BLAUVELT, NY—Before installing his newest press, a five-color, 40˝ Heidelberg Speedmaster CX 102 with Inpress Control, aqueous coater and extended delivery, Ryan Printing President Al Ryan was considering adding a second shift based on rising volume. But the CX 102's speed (16,500 sheets/hr.) and productivity made that unnecessary.
"We'll be sticking with a five-day, single-shift operation with occasional weekend work," he says.
The new press replaced a five-color, 29˝ Speedmaster CD 74 and heralds the company's transition from a half- to full-size shop. It will also enable Ryan Printing to expand its packaging business, including boxes, bottle-neckers, window signage and folding cartons.
Two Digital Toner Presses Installed, Three More to Go
Carol Stream, IL—Copresco, a specialist in digital on-demand printing of publications, books and manuals, guarantees its clients that 250,000 impressions will be delivered one business day after they place their orders. To that end, it has installed two Kodak Digimaster HD125 toner-based digital presses, and ordered three more.
"The new five-system lineup will give us the quality, productivity and reliability needed to handle the daily demands of our high-volume, fast-turnaround plant," says President and CEO Steve Johnson.
"We spend a lot of time evaluating presses before buying," he explains. "Inkjet technology is progressing rapidly, and in a few years may be suitable to meet our exceptionally high quality and heavy-volume demands. But, inkjet is not there today—and our clients need their work done today, not tomorrow." Copresco also plans to upgrade its digital color equipment.

NORTH HOLLYWOOD—The Harman Press has acquired fellow union printer Fox Printing and its staff.
San Jose—BR Printers is installing an HP T230 color inkjet web press and an HP Indigo 7600 digital press, reportedly making it the first printer on the West Coast with the ability to print books in four-color inkjet.
CONNECTICUT
Manchester—Allied Printing Services has ordered two six-color, 41˝ KBA Rapida 106 sheetfed presses and two Canon imagePRESS C7010 color digital presses (one with in-line bookletmaker and trimming).
GEORGIA
MACON—Due to its geographically broad customer base, Panaprint has embraced Fujifilm's XMF Workflow with XMF Remote to enable online customer job approvals.
ILLINOIS
Northlake—Tribune Direct has acquired its third Kodak NexPress digital color press, featuring HD Dry Ink.
INDIANA
New Albany—A second Screen Truepress Jet520 inkjet web press has been installed at direct mail specialist L&D Mail Masters.
MASSACHUSETTS
Agawam—Bridgeport National Bindery has been relying on Xeikon digital printing technology since 1997. The on-demand printer and custom binder began with a 13˝-wide web machine to produce full-color covers and later upgraded to a 20˝ web.
MICHIGAN
Chelsea—TAN Books has chosen Sheridan Books to print its latest title depicting scenes from the major motion picture "Son of God" on its four-color sheetfed presses. The case-bound book features a printed case complete with a matching dust jacket.
Dexter—PublishNext and its subsidiary, Seattle Book, have been acquired by Thomson-Shore Inc. It enables Thomson-Shore's end-to-end platform to include book publishing and distribution services.

CHaska—To support its growing Web-to-print business and expand product offerings, Smartpress.com has purchased a 29˝ HP Indigo 10000 digital press.
MISSOURI
St. Louis—Allan Leonard has been selected to spearhead Swift Click from Swift Print Communications, a Web-to-print communications tool that's designed for its insurance industry clients.
NEW HAMPSHIRE
North Haverhill—Under an Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP), Upper Valley Press is now 100 percent employee-owned. With 95 employees, the company prints daily and weekly newspapers, as well as advertising circulars.

OHIO
Cincinnati—Harlan Graphics Arts Services has added a wide-format Durst Rho P10 320R UV inkjet roll-to-roll printer.
PENNSYLVANIA
Indiana—Revitalizing after a devastating fire that happened in October 2012, Creps United Publications has built a 100,000-square-foot facility and installed a Goss Sunday 3000i insert press and two Sunday 2000i insert presses. Creps now has a total print capacity of more than four million pages per hour. Plans for this year include duplexing one of the Sunday 2000i presses with the Sunday 3000i to enable increased product flexibility and pagination.
TEXAS
Carrollton—Adding to the 45 sign and graphics franchise centers already operating throughout California, FASTSIGNS International's five-year plan includes opening seven to 10 new locations per year in that state. Seattle—The Sustainable Green Printing Partnership (SGP) has certified RPI, the first print-on-demand book manufacturer to have this certification. RPI specializes in private-label, personalized photo books, as well as personalized greeting cards and stationery products.

New Berlin—Tempt In-store Productions, a Quad/Graphics company, plans to install a 59x81˝ KBA Rapida 205 sheetfed press here this summer.
