Large-Format UV Sheetfed Press Helps Packaging Provider Speed Delivery Time
GILEAD, NC—PaperWorks Industries, an integrated, full-service packaging provider, has installed a new 56˝, seven-color KBA Rapida 142 sheetfed press at its facility here. The UV press is expected to start up in March.
"It will provide us with the ability to offer even faster turnaround times and higher quality, and allow us to be more responsive to our customers due to the unique features on-press that we didn't have before," says Jim Downey, general manager. These include UV capabilities and KBA's closed-loop Quali- Tronic in-line color density measurement and control system.
ALABAMA
BIRMINGHAM—Since installing an Océ JetStream 1000 color inkjet printing system, Pinnacle Data Systems has enhanced its full-color production efficiency and reduced its reliance on preprinted color forms. Initial applications have been brokerage and financial statements and utility billing.

Naperville—Sir Speedy of Naperville now has an online, self-service design and print solution called Design Online (www.sirspeedy.com/naperville), which allows customers to design brochures, business cards, stationery, newsletters and banners using templates.
INDIANA
INDIANAPOLIS—HardingPoorman Group has selected EFI Monarch and EFI PrintStream Fulfillment software solutions to help manage its printing, mailing and fulfillment operations.
Maryland
Prince frederick—Direct marketing solutions provider DirectMail.com has entered into a two-year contract with Renewing American Leadership (ReAL), a Virginia nonprofit, charitable organization. DirectMail.com will help ReAL increase current and prospective donor/supporter engagement, as well as become list manager for the organization's donor file of more than 100,000 names.

braintree—Braintree Printing has acquired a Rena Mach 5 digital color inkjet envelope printer to help the firm expand its variable data printing services.
NORTH ADAMS—Excelsior Integrated, a newly formed company by Excelsior Printing, has acquired the assets of Berkshire Information Systems (BIS), a provider of fulfillment, inventory management and electronic commerce services. The new firm will remain in the former BIS facilities in Lee, MA.
WOBURN—UniGraphic Inc. has enhanced its capabilities in wide-format media design and production with the addition of a new EFI VUTEk GS3250LX inkjet printer. The shop has also acquired an Inca Onset S40 from Fujifilm to produce large-format, point-of-purchase and display graphics for its customers.
MICHIGAN
LANSING—The installation of a new six-color, 40˝ Mitsubishi Diamond 3000R sheetfed convertible perfector with aqueous coater has allowed Foresight Group to provide quicker turnarounds for its customers.
Minnesota
BROOKLYN PARK—Print, direct mail and marketing services firm GLS Cos. has increased its client data security assurances to adhere to the new SOC 2 (formerly SAS 70) audit standards.
NEbraska
LINCOLN—Jacob North Cos. has obtained Great Printer certification from The Printing Industry Midwest. The certification process involves a safety and environmental audit, as well as the implementation of two "above compliance" projects.
NEW JERSEY
North Bergen—A Durst Rho 900 large-format UV inkjet printer has been installed at Edison Lithographic & Printing Corp., based here. The new 98˝-wide inkjet printer marks Edison Litho's entry into production digital UV inkjet printing, and offers a range of printing capabilities for clients whose output requirements go beyond traditional litho printing.
New york
ALBANY—Hearst Corp. has invested in a KBA Commander CL web press with four reelstands; four, four-high towers; and two folders. The press is expected to go online in the first quarter of 2013 in its upgraded production facility here. The plant produces the Times Union.
North Carolina
GREENSBORO—A Scodix1200 digital enhancement press is now being deployed for the first time in the United States by AccuLink. Financing for the press was made available by Hewlett-Packard Financial Services.
matthews—A Mimaki CJV30-100 wide-format solvent printer and a Canon 5045 digital printer have been installed at Galaxy Graphics, a commercial printer based here.
OHIO
CLEVELAND—Northern Ohio Printing has implemented Heidelberg's Prinect Business Manager MIS solution. The new software's functionality supports both the company's Heidelberg offset presses and its digital equipment.

WARMINSTER—With the addition of two new Canon imagePRESS C7010VP digital presses, Astro-Dynamic Print & Graphic Services reports it can offer offset-quality digital printing, quicker turnarounds and more paper choices.
TEXAS
HOUSTON—A new MCS Eagle UV-curable inkjet printer has been acquired by Premier IMS, the city's second largest printing and mailing operation.
Virginia
ALTAVISTA—MidAtlantic Printers has chosen a Metrix system from LithoTechnics to better streamline its estimating, planning, prepress and production processes. The software also integrates into the company's existing Heidelberg PrintReady workflow.
washington
KENNEWICK—Esprit Graphic Communications is now FSC certified.
VANCOUVER—The Columbian has selected NELA's VISIO vision register punch bender for in-line connection with its new CTP system. The paper also purchased NELA's Metro lock ups to replace all existing locks in conjunction with its web width reduction from 50˝ to 44˝.
