New Perfector Press Speeds Job Changeovers
MIAMI—Original Impressions, a full-service marketing communications company, has installed a five-color Heidelberg Speedmaster SM 52 perfecting press with aqueous coater and high-pile delivery. The new press, which is deployed for short-run, quick-turn commercial work, is enabling the company to meet the demand for fast turnarounds, as well as eliminate the need for off-line coating and varnishing.
According to company Vice President Henry Herrera, the SM 52 press is ideal because it turns over quickly and efficiently—from straight to perfecting mode—while the fully automated perfecting device ensures smooth sheet travel and register accuracy.
Printer's Solar Panels Generate 'Green' Savings
WARMINSTER, PA—Astro-Dynamic Print and Graphic Services recently completed its solar panel installation. The solar array, consisting of more than 250 solar panels, will produce in excess of 75,000 kilowatts of electricity annually, which will replace 75 percent of the printer's electrical consumption—saving more than 52 metric tons of carbon dioxide annually.
"I'm thrilled to be leading the way in our market for green print and communications," says Darrel Dundore, president of Astro-Dynamic, shown posing on the company's rooftop. "This is by far the best 'feel good' project I have been involved with. Most people don't realize that print is also a renewable resource. The U.S. paper and forest products industry plants 1.7 million trees each day."
