Press With Closed-Loop Color Control System Helps Printer Reduce Waste
HOUSTON—PrintMailers, a marketing communications service provider based here, recently installed a six-color, 29˝ Komori Lithrone SX29 (LSX629) sheetfed press with automation features. "We really liked the fact the LSX629 offered a closed-loop color control system that makes it possible to match colors to a proof much closer than we could before," says Steve Johns, president of PrintMailers.
He adds that the press can get up to color 25 percent faster than the company's other equipment, and works with a range of paper thicknesses and special options.
New Prepress and Postpress Devices Have Improved Trade Shop's Workflow
POMPANO BEACH, FL—Florida Trade Graphics, a provider of printing and binding services for trade printers and print brokers nationwide, has installed a Heidelberg Suprasetter 105 CTP device and a Stahlfolder TH 82 with VSA stacker.
Since the new platesetter began imaging Heidelberg Saphira Chemfree plates for the company's six-color Speedmaster CD 102, Florida Trade Graphics President and CEO Dennis McNaney reports improved print quality across the board. He adds that the new Suprasetter has increased the company's ability to run cleaner and greener because it uses less power, and without the addition of chemical influences.
ALABAMA
BIRMINGHAM—EBSCO Media, a division of EBSCO Industries, has expanded its Collegiate Athletic Communications Div., which allows it to continue to provide service to its current clients, while also servicing the needs of other athletic departments throughout the country.
MADISON—The purchase of a second 10-color Harris M-110 heatset web press has helped ColorXPress increase its production capabilities for publication work. The company also installed another Videojet address and tabbing line to help handle the demand for its customers' direct mail needs.

MILAN—All three operating units at Group O have been recertified in the ISO 9001:2008 standard for quality management systems. In addition, Group O's handset logistics unit achieved TL 9000 certification for the supply chain/fulfillment services it provides to wireless telecom companies.
INDIANA
INDIANAPOLIS—HardingPoorman Group has added five new pieces of quality assurance equipment to its platform. They include: a prepress file validation system; a pharmaceutical folder camera verification system; an inserter match mail/verification system; an inkjet verification system; and a saddlestitching machine signature recognition system.
IOWA
DAVENPORT—One-Step Inc. has purchased the 2,000th unit of Canon's imagePRESS C7010VP series digital production press. The new press allows the company to handle larger sheet sizes and heavier stocks, while delivering consistent output speed and maximized uptime.
MASSACHUSETTS
DANVERS—In an effort to accommodate its growing sales force and new cross-media department, Shawmut Printing has doubled the size of its facility located here, from 4,000 to 8,000 square feet. With this expansion and Shawmut's existing fulfillment warehouse in Chelsea, the Danvers office will also house 15,000 square feet of fulfillment space.
LOWELL—King Printing, the first North American book manufacturer to install a new HP T350 color inkjet web press speed upgrade, reports that the HP T350 runs 50 percent faster than its previous T300 model, running at 600 fpm and producing up to 3,927 letter-size ppm.
MICHIGAN
FLINT—TGI Direct has become the first printer in the United States to install a Xerox iGen4 EXP digital press with matte dry ink to fulfill customer requests for manuals, direct mail pieces and catalogs, while also providing an anchor for cross-media campaigns.
MiNNESOTA
CHANHASSEN—IWCO Direct has added an Océ ColorStream 3500 inkjet printing system here, the first U.S. install of Océ's new inkjet printer.
SHAKOPEE—A re-manufactured W+D 527GSV envelope machine has been purchased by Johnson/Anderson, an envelope manufacturing and commercial printing company.
ST. LOUIS PARK—Japs-Olson Co. has replaced an outdated inserter camera system with 10 new MCS Perfect Match 6.0 camera/inkjet systems.

COLUMBIA—Tribune Publishing has added two Krause LS-Jet 250 platesetters with two Glunz & Jensen Interplater 85HDX processors from Fujifilm to its plate processing line.
NEBRASKA
OMAHA—Omaha Print has purchased a new MCS Eagle UV inkjet system with a 4.25˝ print head for its ability to run a variety of direct mail applications.

BELLMAWR—Midwest Parenting Publications has selected Evergreen Printing to print its two parenting publications, Indy's Child and Cincinnati Parent.

LONG ISLAND CITY—Marketing and fundraising services provider McVicker & Higginbotham has chosen a new MCS Eagle UV inkjet system to personalize plastic membership cards for its museum and arts clients.
ROME—Cathedral Corp. has formed a strategic partnership with Changing Our World, a fundraising consulting firm, to offer its clients a seamless fundraising campaign service.
OHIO
HILLIARD—The Baesman Group has acquired Colortech Solutions, based in Columbus. Jamie Darrow, president of Colortech, and key members of the Colortech Solutions team, have joined Baesman Group.
OREGON
PORTLAND—Premier Press has been certified by the Sustainable Green Printing Partnership SGP—the first full-service printer to be certified on the West Coast.
TEXAS
KILLEEN—A new Heidelberg Suprasetter A75 thermal platesetter with single cassette loader has been installed at Spectrum Printing, completing its transition from a film-based to digital workflow. The new CTP device images Heidelberg Saphira Chemfree plates for use in Spectrum's offset printing equipment.
RICHARDSON—Executive Press has replaced a violet platesetter with a Heidelberg Suprasetter A75 thermal CTP device. It is now imaging Saphira Chemfree plates for the company's four offset presses.
THE WOODLANDS—Since adding a Konica Minolta bizhub PRESS C8000 color digital press, Firehouse Printing has grown its color print production business by 18 percent. The shop is now able to offer customers heavy-stock postcards, direct mail flyers, catalogs, billing inserts and other marketing materials.
VIRGINIA
BEDFORD—Smyth Cos., a Minneapolis-based package label printer, has purchased an eight-color, 40˝ Mitsubishi Diamond 3000LX sheetfed press for its production facility here. It can accommodate the plant's wide range of paper and specialty nonporous substrates.
WASHINGTON
LYNNWOOD—Advanced Labels NW, a custom label manufacturer, has purchased its first HP Indigo WS6000 digital offset printing press.
SEATTLE—Printing and packaging company AllpakTrojan has installed a six-color, 56˝ KBA Rapida 142 sheetfed press with coater. The new press complements an existing eight-color, 56˝ KBA Rapida 142 with a coater, hybrid UV capabilities and a Qualitronic II in-line sheet inspection system.
SEATTLE—McCallum Print Group is the first printer to retrofit a Komori H-UV curing system to its existing Komori Lithrone LS640 press.
WISCONSIN
WAUKESHA—Specialized Output Printing is a startup trade printer, based here, that has built its business by acquiring a Screen Truepress Jet2500UV grand-format inkjet printer, along with board-cutting equipment, in a 4,000-square-foot manufacturing space.
