Foresight Consolidates, Upgrades Equipment
LANSING, MI—The Foresight Group has installed a four-color Heidelberg Speedmaster SM 52 press to handle its short-run color work, including the production of full-color envelopes. According to Foresight President Bill Christofferson, the installation was part of a plant-wide upgrade undertaken in connection with consolidation of the company's operations (previously housed in four separate buildings) into a 30,000-square-foot facility.
Foresight's new plant also made room for a new Polar 137 XT cutter with P-Net and Compucut, two lifts, jogger and scale, along with several pieces of used equipment, including a Heidelberg Stitchmaster ST 270.
Prosper Inkjet Press Purchase Paves Way for New Jobs at Mercury Print
ROCHESTER, NY—Mercury Print Productions and Eastman Kodak recently held a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the installation of Mercury's new Kodak Prosper 5000XL digital inkjet press. The first company here to install a Prosper press, Mercury's investment is expected to create 40 new jobs over a three-year period. The press will increase Mercury's ability to produce short-run books in color and will serve as the cornerstone of its digital book operation.
ARIZONA
PHOENIX—Adding a new HP Scitex FB7500 UV printer and GMG color management suite have helped BPGraphics Inc. transition more of its analog screen printing work and streamline color management across its digital production platforms.
CONNECTICUT
SHELTON—Inform Printing has acquired an automated, five-color Komori Spica 29 (Spica 529P) sheetfed offset perfecting press.
FLORIDA
DAVIE—A new Heidelberg Suprasetter A75 platesetter, with Meta Dimension RIP and impositioning via SignaStation, has been installed at Absolute Graphics, a short-run trade printer.
MIAMI—Solo Printing has been certified as a G7 Master Printer from the IDEAlliance—reportedly making Solo one of just eight printers in the state to obtain this certification.
GEORGIA
ATLANTA—Geographics Inc. earned Orion Energy Systems' Environmental Stewardship Award for the company's reduction in energy consumption, which included replacing 99 high-intensity discharge (HID) light fixtures with Orion high-intensity fluorescent (HIF) technology.
BREMEN—A new MGI Meteor DP60 Pro multi-substrate digital press has been installed at Gateway Printing. The press was purchased from Paper Handling Solutions, an MGI dealer.
ILLINOIS
CHICAGO—To meet its growing demand for variable data and quick turnaround times on digital printing, Rider Dickerson is now operating a new HP Indigo 7500 digital press.
EFFINGHAM—Kingery Printing has upgraded its EFI Monarch print management system and purchased additional software modules to further increase productivity.
ELK GROVE VILLAGE—International Label & Printing has installed a 13˝ Nilpeter FA-3 combination digital/UV flexographic press. Reportedly the only press of its kind in North America, the machine contains three UV flexo units in addition to a Caslon four-color digital module—all in-line.
HENRY—M&D Printing has upgraded its EFI Hagen print management system to EFI Monarch. The catalog and magazine printer also purchased EFI PrinterSite Internal to automate its request for quote process.
INDIANA
FORT WAYNE—Dataprint has installed a Ricoh Pro C901 digital production color printer at its facility located here.
KANSAS
HESSTON—As part of its initiative to offer yearbook printing to schools in Kansas and surrounding areas, Hesston Prestige Printing chose to acquire a new Konica Minolta bizhub PRESS C7000.
MARYLAND
CHEVERLY—Mosaic has selected a suite of integrated EFI technologies, including EFI Pace, EFI Digital StoreFront, EFI Auto-Count and EFI PrintFlow scheduling.
MICHIGAN
ANN ARBOR—Edwards Brothers has formed the gps Global Print Solutions alliance with three foreign book manufacturers to establish a global book manufacturing network. The company has also installed three new Kodak NexPress SX 3600 color presses for its Michigan, North Carolina and New Jersey digital book and journal centers.
CHELSEA—Hopkins Fulfillment Services (HFS) has signed an e-book distribution agreement with Sheridan Books that will allow HFS to distribute electronic content to its clients and publishers through HFS Digital. In other news, Sheridan has qualified as a G7 Master Printer from the IDEAlliance.
FLINT—At marketing support services firm TGI Direct, 18 employees participated in Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan's weight-loss program. TGI won the weight-loss competition in the category of 11 to 29 participating employees by losing a total of 187 pounds.
MINNESOTA
MINNEAPOLIS—The John Roberts Co. has successfully completed a SAS70 Type II audit through LarsonAllen, which ensures the system integrity and security of all of the hosted data for its customers within the financial and health care industries.
MISSOURI
KANSAS CITY—Package printer Allied Litho purchased a six-color, 56˝ manroland Roland 900 sheetfed press with UV coater, its second Roland 900 press in less than three years.
NEVADA
LAS VEGAS—Publishing solutions provider Creel Printing has entered into a multi-year, multiple-edition contract with Daily Racing Form (publisher of the country's only daily newspaper dedicated to a single sport: horse racing). The contract spans front-end processing through the distribution of seven of the company's tabloids.
NEW JERSEY
SEACACUS—To meet demand for four-color, short-run printing on coated media, Strategic Content Imaging (SCI), a Command Web company, has acquired a 30˝ HP T300 color inkjet web press as the centerpiece of its on-demand printing operation.
NEW YORK
ALBANY—Fort Orange Press and The Pressroom have formed a strategic alliance to consolidate offset printing operations in the Fort Orange Press facility here, while maintaining digital production at The Pressroom's location in Ballston Spa.
AMITYVILLE—Envelopes.com, a 40-year-old, online envelope and printing company formerly known as Action Envelope, has moved to its first company-owned facility. The new, 35,000-square-foot operation is almost double the size of its former location.
GREEN ISLAND—Since acquiring a new four-color Komori Lithrone S29 sheetfed press with coater, the New York State Bar Association is able to keep more work in-house and experience a faster time-to-market.
HAUPPAUGE—DISC has retrofitted an Eco-Eagle cold foil system, from Graphic Art Systems, onto its eight-color, 40˝ Heidelberg offset press.
LONG ISLAND CITY—A second eight-color Komori perfector with aqueous coating, a Bobst SP 102 SE diecutter and two Preco hand-feed diecutters are the latest investments at Candid Litho Printing.
ROCHESTER—Just in time for its 2011 centennial celebration, Diamond Packaging has installed a second eight-color Heidelberg Speedmaster XL 105 in a special double coating configuration with initial flexo dispersion coater, four modular deliveries and full interdeck UV capability.
ROME—Cathedral Corp. has been selected by NAFCU Services for printed and electronic financial communication programs, personalized direct mail and e-marketing services.
OHIO
CANTON—Standard Printing has selected the full EFI Monarch MIS suite to eliminate redundancies, and for its ability to integrate with Kodak Prinergy software to automate the company's prepress workflow.
CLEVELAND—Since installing an HP Indigo 7500 digital press, Jakprints Inc. is now able to produce low-waste, short-run printing.
COLUMBUS—Hopkins Printing has been selected as one of 50 recipients to receive an award for the 2011 Top Small Company Workplaces in America competition sponsored by Inc. magazine and Winning Workplaces.
FREEPORT—Freeport Press customers are now using the SendMyAd digital ad portal to streamline and automate the submission, preflight and approval process for advertising files. In other news, Freeport Press has also expanded its partnership with EFI to offer clients complimentary licences to Proteus publication planning software.
OREGON
PORTLAND—A new eight-color, 40˝ Komori Lithrone UV perfecting press has been installed at Premier Press. The new press replaces a 10-year-old, six-color, 40˝ Komori model.
PENNSYLVANIA
MAYFIELD—To celebrate its 100th year in business, 100 employees, suppliers and customers of the P.A. Hutchison Co. were treated to a game at Yankee stadium. Chris Hutchison, fourth-generation president and CEO, and Phil Hutchison, former president and CEO, were also honored by their employees with the "The Employer of the Century Award."
PHILADELPHIA—Brokers Worldwide, an international and domestic mail and parcel solutions provider, is celebrating its 25th anniversary.
PHILADELPHIA—Smith-Edwards-Dunlap and Graphic Arts have merged their operations into Smith-Edwards-Dunlap's 120,000-square-foot facility in Port Richmond. Combined, the two family-owned businesses have been serving area clients for more than 214 years.
SOUTH CAROLINA
CHARLESTON—Since implementing a Goss reelstand enhancement program with upgrades to the reelstands of two Goss Metroliner presses comprising 10 units and seven half-decks, The Charleston Post and Courier has improved the paste performance and overall tension control.
TEXAS
KATY—The installation of a new UV-equipped, six-color, 41˝ KBA Rapida 106 sheetfed press will allow Pointsmith to produce point-of- purchase retail signage on a variety of substrates, including plastic.
WISCONSIN
LA CROSSE—Inland Label has purchased a second Heidelberg Speedmaster XL 105-8+L press equipped with a CutStar sheeting unit, aqueous coating, Prinect Press Center with Intellistart operator guidance system, integrated Wallscreen and Prinect Inpress Control.
SUN PRAIRIE—Royle Printing is implementing the entire Technique MIS and real-time data collection system.
SUSSEX—Quad/Graphics has bought a five-color, 29˝ Presstek 75DI digital offset press equipped with an in-line aqueous coater to help meet the quick-turnaround needs of clients.
