Press Purchase Expands Printer's Capabilities
YORK, SC—Ambassador Packaging, a folding carton printer serving the automobile, pharmaceutical, cosmetic and food industries, has increased its capabilities with the purchase of a six-color, 41˝ KBA Rapida 106 press with coater.
Although Ambassador has a strong presence in the large-format folding carton market, it was looking to strengthen its production of small-format folding cartons. The Rapida 106 joins the firm's existing six-color, 56˝ KBA Rapida 142, which is outfitted with a spectrophotometer color scanner.
New Perfector Highlights Plant Relocation
ALLENTOWN, PA—Gillespie Printing has installed a five-color Heidelberg Speedmaster SM 52 perfector in conjunction with a plant expansion and relocation from Catasaqua, PA, to here. The automated press replaces the company's existing Printmaster PM 52, and adds higher running speeds, faster makereadies and aqueous coating to the company's capabilities. In terms of productivity, company president David Hebig says, "We're able to produce an extra two jobs per day."
CALIFORNIA
SAN DIEGO—Quantum Digital Imaging has installed a 60˝ HP Designjet L25500 printer to produce indoor and outdoor applications for advertising agencies and marketing departments. Recent outdoor projects were perforated window graphics and aluminum signs for an airport and banner stands for an aquatic theme park. Indoor jobs included promotional wallpaper for bus terminals, adhesive signs for museum-like display cases and a theater stage backdrop.

DENVER—To expand its capabilities and increase capacity, Publication Printers recently acquired a preowned six-unit, single-web M-600 press from Graphic Innovators.

SOUTHINGTON—CompuMail is creating more effective, personalized sales and marketing communications for clients after acquiring its Kodak Nexpress 2500 digital production color press.
FLORIDA
BOCA RATON—JKG Group's new eight-up Heidelberg Suprasetter 105 MCL platesetter has replaced an aging model, and images plates for use with the firm's six-color Speedmaster CD 102 and three two-color Printmaster QM 46 presses.
GEORGIA
SMYRNA—The Printing & Imaging Association of Georgia (PIAG) named Jerry Scher, co-founder and principal of Our Green Value, a division of Peak Focus LLC in Atlanta, as its 2010 Benjamin Franklin Award recipient. The award recognized his contribution to the graphic arts industry in Georgia for more than 30 years.
ILLINOIS
GRAYSLAKE—GFX International has added an Inca Onset S70 UV digital flatbed press, from Fujifilm North America, to aid in its production of in-store graphics. The press has given clients more options related to variable data and versioning.
HARWOOD HEIGHTS—A new Gammerler RS111 four-knife trimmer and pattern backbone gluer have augmented the format capabilities of FCL Graphics' Goss M-1000BE web press equipped with a Press Tech combination folder with tabloid/double parallel and chopper deliveries preceded by a prefolder.
NAPERVILLE—Website design and development is the newest service offered by the Sir Speedy Printing center here.
NILES—Johnson & Quin, a direct mail printing and production company in business for 134 years, has implemented EFI's Monarch Foundation MIS solution to streamline processes, smooth workflow and centralize job information.

DES MOINES—Rock Communications recently turned to Graphic Innovators for turnkey removal, shipping, installation and startup of a preowned six-unit, single-web M-600 press with folding, sheeting, perfing and in-line gluing capabilities.
MASSACHUSETTS
HOLLISTON—To serve its pharmaceutical and technology industry customers with expanded color capabilities and faster turnaround, Starburst Printing and Graphics has added a five-color Komori Spica 29 (Spica 529P) perfecting press to its facility here.
MINNESOTA
MINNEAPOLIS—The John Roberts Co. was recently recognized at the Mailing & Fulfillment Service Association (MFSA) annual conference for being the 10th MFSA Fulfillment Accredited company nationwide.
NEW JERSEY
CLIFTON—To expand into the wide- and grand-format marketing arena, Sandy Alexander has acquired new equipment and added several senior executives. Brian Madigan has been named the general manager of the new division. The firm's printers will use UV inks to produce stadium banners, vehicle wraps, billboards, retail signage, transit graphics, event and trade show graphics, and pole banners.
NEW HAMPSHIRE
PORTSMOUTH—On Demand Imaging has added two digital presses: an HP Indigo 5500 and a Canon ImagePRESS C7000VP, to complement its existing offset and wide-format printing capabilities.

MORRISVILLE—Southport Graphics recently launched here as a digital printing company led by owner Ann Jagger.
PENNSYLVANIA
PHILADELPHIA—Bartash Printing, a manufacturer of magazines, newspapers and niche publications, has selected the Tensor Group to supply three new four-high towers and one folder. The firm will house a total of 58 Tensor T-1400 units and five H-50 folders when the new pressline is installed.
WARMINSTER—Old York Road Publishing has upgraded its premedia operations with an eight-up Heidelberg Suprasetter 105 CTP device.
WAYMART—SG Printing, a financial and commercial book manufacturer, has installed a Kodak Nexpress digital press with in-line bookletmaker and trimmer to produce short-run, four-color covers.
SOUTH CAROLINA
GREENVILLE—Installing an HP Indigo 7000 digital press and SmartStream Production Pro print server has helped Indexx Inc. increase its variable data printing capacity and productivity.
TENNESSEE
LA VERGNE—Lightning Source, an Ingram Content Group company, has expanded its products to include new color interior hardcover book options, additional trim sizes for black-and-white interior books, expanded page count options for both perfect bound and hardcover books, and a multi- volume set option.
NASHVILLE—Fidelity Offset, an offset/digital printing firm, reports it has nearly 20 percent of its business flowing through its Responsive Solutions' Customer+ Web-to-print solution.
Format flexibility is what led Ambrose Printing, a commercial printer specializing in religious publishing, retail communications and educational testing, to purchase a Xeikon digital color press.
TEXAS
FORT WORTH—The Big Picture has added an Agfa Anapurna flatbed printer, allowing the wide-format digital printing company to print on large, rigid surfaces and more than doubling the company's capacity.
VIRGINIA
FALLS CHURCH—CSI Printing & Graphics' purchase of an Inca Onset S70 flatbed printer from Fujifilm North America will help it meet demand for fast turnarounds of wide-format prints. The company also bought a 5-meter Uvistar roll printer to help manage the load of banner and transit work.
WASHINGTON
KENNEWICK—Esprit Graphic Communications has purchased selected assets and all client files of Press Craft, which closed its doors after 50 years in commercial printing.
SEATTLE—An HP Indigo W7200 digital press and Standard Hunkeler POPP6 finishing solution are helping RPI Inc., a producer of photo books and other photo specialty products, expand capacity.
