Digital Press Chosen After Rigorous Analysis
NEW WASHINGTON, OH—After an extensive demo process on six different digital color presses, The Herald, a full-service commercial printing and marketing company established in 1881, installed an MGI Meteor DP60 Pro multi-substrate digital press at its facility here.
"The Meteor DP60 Pro really stood apart from the other digital presses that we evaluated, especially in terms of sheet size and substrate versatility," says Dave Stump, CEO. "We also loved the Meteor DP60 Pro's offset press-like feeding and registration system, the fact that we could do a lot of basic PM tasks ourselves, and the overall operational costs were very manageable."
Second Press Increases Large-Format Capacity at New Plant for Trade Printer
SANTA ANA, CA—Foster Printing, a large-format trade printer, inaugurated its new, 46,000-square-foot facility with a five-color, 64˝ KBA Rapida 162a sheetfed press. The firm began printing in its new facility last December with the new press alongside its existing six-color, 64˝ KBA Rapida 162a press with UV capabilities. Foster's management team has plans to add two shifts on both presses and eventually expand to a weekend shift.
ALABAMA
HUNTSVILLE—White Tiger Printing, based here, and Litho Express, Minneapolis, have merged. The combined entity will retain the White Tiger name, and will be part of Taylor Corp. headquartered in North Mankato, MN. Production capacity in Huntsville will be consolidated into other Taylor Corp. facilities, but sales and customer service staff will remain based in Huntsville.
FLORIDA
JACKSONVILLE—Malnove, an independent folding carton manufacturer, has purchased a seven-color, 56˝ KBA Rapida 142 sheetfed press with anilox coater and delivery extension for its facility here. The large-format press was due to be up and running at the printer by the first quarter of 2011.
GEORGIA
MACON—A new MGI Meteor DP60 Pro digital press has been installed at Alphagraphics Macon. The press was chosen by the franchise shop for its ability to print on a wide variety of substrates (plastics and envelopes), as well as its versatile format-size capabilities.
IOWA
DAVENPORT—Midland Information Resources has reached a milestone by printing more than 500 million linear feet (the equivalent of one billion impressions) on its Océ VarioStream 9210 digital printer.
KENTUCKY
CRESTVIEW HILLS—To celebrate its 90th year in business, the Flottman Co. initiated a "90 Years, Plant 900 Trees" campaign. For every FSC certified job purchased, the Flottman Co. is donating 150 trees to the Nature Conservancy until it reaches the 900 tree donation mark.
MARYLAND
ANNAPOLIS—Post Haste Mailing claims it is the first company to use Memjet technology in a RENA Mach 5 printer to produce four-color, full-bleed envelopes at speeds up to 7,500/hr.
MASSACHUSETTS
CLINTON—Dunn and Co., a specialist in book printing, binding, folding, laminating, conversions and repairs, has added a Xeikon 8000 digital color press to print short-run books.
EAST BRIDGEWATER—Harte-Hanks Inc. has installed an HP Indigo 7500 digital press at its facility here, which produces marketing collateral.
WORCESTER—The recent installation of a Heidelberg Suprasetter A52 CTP device and a switch to Saphira Chemfree plates have given Quick Stop Printing the ability to produce high-quality jobs more quickly.
MICHIGAN
PLAINWELL—The Graphic Communications department of the Michigan Career and Technical Institute (MCTI) has installed a Heidelberg Printmaster QM 46-2 press to train its students, as well as to produce a variety of printed materials for MCTI and other state government agencies.
MINNESOTA
MINNEAPOLIS—Imagine! Print Solutions has entered the permanent point-of-purchase market to offer customers the ability to add more in-store and at-retail impact.
MINNEAPOLIS—The John Roberts Co. has begun implementing the full suite of the Prism WIN management information system (MIS), including QTMS for automated shop floor data capture and automated tracking of work in procress.
MISSOURI
ST. LOUIS—Swift Print Communications has been certified as a G7 Master Printer from the IDEAlliance, joining more than 560 printing companies worldwide to attain this certification.
NEW HAMPSHIRE
GONIC—Self Publishing Press, a new division of Odyssey Press, has been formed to offer authors a digital printing solution to self-publish their books. Editorial and marketing services are also being offered as options.
OHIO
DAYTON—After a 14-month evaluation, WorkflowOne has selected EFI Monarch and EFI Digital StoreFront as its print manufacturing management platform to automate and unify its 15 U.S. locations.
OREGON
PORTLAND—The Oregonian newspaper has installed two NELA Evolution Vision plate register punch/bender combinations for in-line connection with its Krause LS-Jet computer-to-plate devices and Bluefin processors.
PENNSYLVANIA
EXTON—As part of a web reduction project that extends over multiple Journal Register properties, The Exton Journal Register has replaced an existing NELA 2-into-1 VCP configuration with a new Vision register bender to run both its existing 50˝ and future 44˝ web widths.
PITTSBURGH—Washington Reprographics, a digital printing, document management and architectural graphics firm, has changed its name to Printscape to reflect its ability to be a total imaging, packaging and graphics solutions provider.
WASHINGTON
SPOKANE—Lancer Ltd., a commercial printer, has acquired a high-speed Xerox Nuvera 144 black-and-white digital production system.
