IntegraColor Boosts Digital
MESQUITE, TX—IntegraColor Ltd. announced that it has acquired Dallas-based digital print firm The Color Place. The acquisition will extend Integra- Color's assets for digital printing in both small and grand formats, permanent and promotional signage, and will also facilitate expansion into quick turn, short-run projects. The deal is expected to add an additional $15 to $20 million to its 2010-2011 revenues. IntegraColor intends to retain The Color Place team, consolidating equipment and personnel into its headquarters in Mesquite.
Worldcolor Closing Dyersburg
MONTREAL—Worldcolor is closing its Dyersburg, TN, facility by the first quarter of 2011, the Dyersburg State Gazette said. The move will result in the loss of about 668 jobs. The facility provides web offset and rotogravure printing. The closure will be phased in over a period of months, concluding in the first quarter of 2011.
Acme Mourns Loss of Miller
DES MOINES, IA—Jerry Miller, 69, president of Acme Printing located here, died April 1, three days after suffering a stroke, the Des Moines Register reported. Mr. Miller purchased Acme Printing in 1976 and grew the business to more than $14 million in sales. The company will now be guided by a three-person executive team consisting of Dennis Crane, vice president of production; Talena Mayfield, vice president of sales and marketing; and Dennis Sissel, vice president of finance.
Humphrey Printing Shuttered
WICHITA FALLS, TX—General commercial printer Humphrey Printing has ceased operations, the Times Record News reported. The closure will leave 30 workers without jobs. Humphrey produced business forms, letterhead, annual reports, brochures and books, among other things, according to the newspaper.
Hagadone CEO to Step Down
HONOLULU—Erwin Hudelist, president of Hagadone Printing, will exit his post later this year due to health issues, the Honolulu Advertiser is reporting. The Austrian-born Hudelist has been at the helm of Hagadone Printing since 1998. A successor has not been chosen.
Ex-NPI Employee Is Indicted
COLUMBUS, OH—The ex-bookkeeper of Nutis Press (NPI) has been indicted for allegedly pilfering $597,000 from the company's owner during a three-plus-year period. The Columbus Dispatch reported that Joy Nutt, 41, was indicted on one felony count of theft for stealing from NPI, but company spokesman David George told Printing Impressions that the funds were actually taken from the personal accounts of now-deceased owner Frank Nutis. Nutt faces a maximum eight years in prison if convicted.
Premier Printing Makes Deal
STRATFORD, CT—Premier Printing and Mailing has acquired The Firm Advantage, a Shelton, CT-based provider of personalized printing and mailing services. According to Premier Printing CEO Tim Cicchese, the deal will strengthen the company's offerings to the educational and non-profit marketplaces. A full-service printing and mailing company, Premier has grown more than 20 percent each year since 2001.
Boarman Nominated for GPO
WASHINGTON, DC—President Obama has announced his intention to nominate William Boarman to be the 26th Public Printer of the United States. He succeeds Robert Tapella, who was named to the post in May of 2007. The Public Printer serves as CEO of the Government Printing Office (GPO). Boarman currently is a vice president of the Communications Workers of America union.
Duquesne Trio Join Heeter
CANONSBURG, PA—The former owners of Bridgeville, PA-based Duquesne Litho—Jim Condio, Steve Condio and Greg Condio—have joined Heeter Direct. Terms of the agreement were not revealed. Duquesne Litho ceased manufacturing operations on April 9. NAPL provided consultive advice to Heeter on its M&A growth strategy. Heeter provides sheetfed and digital printing, mailing, kitting and fulfillment services, among others.
Mimeo.com Opens Platform
NEW YORK—Online printing and distribution specialist Mimeo.com announced that it has opened its technology platform so that third parties can share Mimeo's solutions with their own customers or employees. Partners can leverage any part of Mimeo.com's front-end applications and its production workflow, printing and distribution capabilities.
