Harland Clarke Cuts Jobs
GLEN BURNIE, MD—Integrated payment, marketing services and security solutions specialist Harland Clarke is cutting 125 jobs at its facility here, a process that will be completed by June 2013, according to The Baltimore Sun. The San Antonio-based firm said that impacted employees are encouraged to look for work elsewhere in the company’s chain of facilities. Printing and production work will be relocated to plants in North Carolina and Arizona, with support services remaining here.
Allied Group Nabs United
CRANSTON, RI—The Allied Group, a marketing communications and fulfillment services company, announced the acquisition of United Printing, a full-service commercial printer based in Warwick, RI. United, a family-owned and operated business led by President and CEO Raymond Amore and Vice President Barbara Caminito, has been offering sheetfed printing and mailing for close to 70 years.
Layoffs at Multi Packaging
LOUISVILLE, KY—Multi Packaging Solutions is laying off 83 employees, according to Business First. The paper cited a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) notice filed with the Kentucky Division of Workforce and Employment Services. Multi Packaging Solutions employed 360 Louisville workers in 2010 at two plants.
Princeton Expands West
ROBBINSVILLE, NJ—Princeton Fulfillment Solutions, an integrated marketing solutions company, has acquired Phoenix Marketing Services, of Claremont, CA, and Phoenix de México, Rosarito, Baja California, Mexico. The two companies and Princeton allPoints now become operating entities of The Princeton Companies, based here.
Kirkwood Swings Deal
WILMINGTON, MA—Kirkwood Holdings has acquired Nu Graphics Etc., a digital printing solutions company. Nu Graphics Etc. joins commercial printer Kirkwood Printing (ranked #111 on the 2011 Printing Impressions 400 list with $43 million in sales) and direct marketing communications specialist Kirkwood Direct in serving a range of domestic and international clientele. Perrone Group, which is also under Kirkwood Holdings’ umbrella, offers direct marketing expertise to the higher education and nonprofit marketplace.
Omaha Adds Holm Assets
OMAHA, NE—Omaha Print has agreed to purchase the customer base of Holm Graphic Services in Des Moines, IA. Mary Ann Amundson, sole shareholder of Holm, has joined Omaha Print as Iowa regional director, sales and business development. Holm will cease its own production.
IBT Global Buys Hamilton
TROY, NY—Integrated Book Technology (IBT Global) has purchased Hamilton Printing, a 100-year-old, family-owned book printing firm based in Castleton, NY. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. The new company will operate under the name IBT/Hamilton. The combined entity will have more than 160 employees with revenues approaching $30 million.
Trapped Worker Is Rescued
SOMERVILLE, MA—Press operator Carlos Barboza was rescued by fire officials after being trapped for 45 minutes under a crushing pile of paper while inside a collection silo at Universal Wilde, according to The Boston Globe. Barboza was freed after fire officials cut two holes in the silo to extricate him. He had climbed inside the silo to unclog a jammed hopper before becoming trapped under a large pile of paper. PI
