Landmark Press for Brown
WASECA, MN—Brown Printing has acquired the world’s first Goss Sunday 3000 web press with an extended 75˝ web width. Installation of the new Goss Sunday press in Brown’s facility here will begin next spring and is expected to be completed by July 2011. The four-unit, 32-page press will be capable of producing saddle-stitched and perfect-bound products up to 9˝ wide, reportedly a first for single-circumference web presses.
Xerox Peddles Espresso
ROCHESTER, NY—The on-demand book production machine that caught the printing world’s attention when it was first released now has name recognition in its corner. Xerox Corp. announced that it will now market, sell or lease and service the Espresso Book Machine, which prints, binds and trims bookstore-quality paperbacks with color covers in minutes.
RRD Touts 60˝ Inkjet Press
CHICAGO—RR Donnelley has developed what it claims is the industry’s first 60˝ wide, high-speed inkjet digital press. The new presses, to be deployed in the first half of 2011, will enhance the company’s fleet of proprietary ProteusJet digital printing units. RR Donnelley’s global platform features proprietary and commercially available technologies.
Quad Orders Insert Presses
SUSSEX, WI—Quad/Graphics will install two new Goss Sunday web presses with DigiRail digital inking specifically designed for the production of retail inserts. The company has also tapped Goss International for enhancements for several Sunday presses and folders at facilities in the United States, including installation of Goss Zero-Slip Nip technology. The new presses will be equipped with Contiweb FD pasters, Ecocool dryers and Omnicon controls.
New Digs for NCL Graphic
WAUKESHA, WI—NCL Graphic Specialties has broken ground on a 60,220-square-foot facility in Menomonee Falls, WI, and is planning a 56,000-square-foot addition to the 6.7-acre site. The package printer and label producer operates three Wisconsin facilities in Waukesha, Pewaukee and Brookfield.
emediagroup Swings Deal
GREENVILLE, SC—emediagroup, a provider of commercial printing solutions and services, has purchased certain assets of Carolina Graphic Arts, a local print provider, in an effort to bolster its local, regional and national commercial printing solutions. The deal allows emediagroup to expand its footprint, along with adding to its conventional, digital and large-format commercial printing offerings.
Anapurna M 2050 Sold to DRS
DOYLESTOWN, PA—Digital Reprographics Solutions (DRS) is the first company in North America to purchase an Anapurna M 2050 inkjet printer from Agfa Graphics. The Anapurna M 2050 is a high-speed, six-color plus white, UV-curable inkjet printer that has eight print heads, 8,192 nozzles, and the ability to print in both uni- and
bi-directional modes. It will provide DRS with expanded capabilities for color reproduction.
Glenn Takes Craftsman Helm
HOMEWOOD, AL—General commercial printer Craftsman Printing has appointed Patrick Glenn its new president. For the past five years, Glenn has been co-owner and corporate vice president, but will now assume responsibilities for all day-to-day operations of the company. Senior partner Jim Glenn will continue in his position as chairman.

HANOVER, NH—Dartmouth Printing, a web printer specializing in magazine and catalog production, will install a new nine-unit Goss Sunday 2000 web press in early 2011. Dartmouth is a member of The Sheridan Group, based in Hunt Valley, MD.
University Gets $3.99M Gift
APPLETON, WI—Lawrence University, where Paul Schmidt and his wife, Kay, attended the school’s homecoming festivities together in 1935, will receive $3.99 million courtesy of the Paul and Katherine Schmidt Trust. Paul Schmidt, who died last November at age 92, once served as CEO at the Harold F. Pitman Co., a printing industry distributor that was acquired by Agfa earlier this year. Kay Schmidt died in February 2009 at the age of 91.
IWCO Direct Adds Sorters
CHANHASSEN, MN—Direct marketing solutions specialist IWCO Direct has installed three Siemens Paramount delivery barcode sorters at its Hamburg, PA, facility. The installation brings the total to five delivery barcode sorters at the facility, which help customers reduce postage costs by commingling mail into common mail trays. They are designed to sort the most difficult mail pieces required by today’s leading direct marketers. PI
