OSHA Cites, Fines Printer
MINSTER, OH—Globus Printing & Packaging has been assessed $91,800 in fines by the Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA), resulting from 24 health and safety violations found during an inspection. Among the violations cited: Failing to maintain exit lighting and an employee alarm system; failing to maintain an environment free of combustible dust; and not ensuring that employees used eye and face protection.
Cummings Installs First 38D
HOOKSET, NH—Cummings Printing, a full-service publication printer, has installed North America's first Komori System 38D web offset press. Family owned and operated since 1914, Cummings Printing chose the System 38D to gain a competitive edge in both pricing and efficiency.
RRD Extends Directory Pact
CHICAGO—RR Donnelley has been awarded a $250 million, multiyear- agreement by Dex Media for directory production that renews and significantly expands the companies' relationship through 2020. Under the terms of the agreement, RRD will produce approximately 1,700 directory titles each year, totaling more than 87 million copies annually. Roughly 200 titles, totaling 190,000-plus copies, will be produced on their digital platform.
RPM Solutions Closes Doors
ROSEDALE, MD—RPM Solutions, which reached a peak of $9 million in sales in 2008, closed its doors in February, unable to withstand the economic downturn and changes in the printing industry, the Baltimore Business Journal reported. RPM Solutions reportedly lost a pair of major clients in recent years: T. Rowe Price Group, which brought its printing in-house, and Erickson Retirement Communities.
Kodak Names New CEO
ROCHESTER, NY—Eastman Kodak has named Jeffrey Clarke as its new CEO, replacing Antonio Perez. Clarke, 52, was a managing partner of Augusta Columbia Capital (ACC), a private investment firm focused on middle market technology and technology- enabled businesses that he co-founded in 2012. He will also continue to serve as chairman of Orbitz Worldwide.
Quad Expands Commingling
SUSSEX, WI—Quad/Graphics Inc. is strengthening its direct marketing platform with a multimillion-dollar expansion of its East Coast commingling center in Westampton, NJ. The expansion includes six new letter sorters housed in newly-leased space.
New Home, Gear for Shapco
GOLDEN VALLEY, MN—Shapco Printing is in the process of relocating to a 123,500-square foot facility here from its current home in Minneapolis. The 120-employee firm also purchased a trio of presses—an HP Indigo 10000, an HP Indigo 7600 and a five-color Ryobi 525 HX with coater—to go with a 40˝ Brausse diecutter.
Lottery Expansion Adds Jobs
ALPHARETTA, GA—Scientific Games has expanded its lottery ticket manufacturing plant, a move that will result in 40 new jobs and bolster printing capacity by about 20 percent. The firm acquired an Alpha P-7 manufacturing system that is capable of printing nine billion lottery tickets.
Allied Invests in Presses
MANCHESTER, CT—John Sommers Jr., president and CEO of Allied Printing Services, announced the purchase of two new KBA Rapida 106 sheetfed offset presses to its extensive array of printing capabilities. Allied is also adding two new Canon imagePRESS 7010 digital presses, significantly expanding its digital services.
