Walsworth Nets Boyd Assets
MARCELINE, MO—Walsworth announced that it has entered into an agreement to acquire significant manufacturing equipment from Boyd Brothers Printing of Panama City, FL. The equipment acquisition was made possible when Boyd Brothers President and owner Jim Boyd Jr. announced to his employees that the commercial printing company was closing after 83 years in business. The move leaves more than 100 Boyd Brothers employees without jobs.
Arandell Executives Buy Firm
MENOMONEE FALLS, WI–Arandell Corp., a catalog printing and omni-channel solutions provider, announced that Chairman Don Treis and his family sold the company to Arandell President Brad Hoffman and other members of the management team.
Cenveo Shuttering MN Plant
MINNEAPOLIS—Cenveo Corp. will permanently close its commercial printing facility here by the end of March, the Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal reported. The move will result in the loss of about 112 jobs. According to the newspaper, the news came along with a mass layoff warning sent to the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development. The layoffs could begin as early as Dec. 31.
Joe Becker, 85, Passes Away
COLUMBIA, MD—Becker, a division of RS&F Chartered, announced the death of Joseph Becker, CPA. Mr. Becker died on Nov. 6 at the age of 85 following a year-long illness. He served the printing and packaging industry for more than 60 years and was recognized as “The Printing Industry’s Accountant” for his expertise in finance, production standards, compensation and incentive packages, mergers and acquisitions, and long range planning.
Burton & Mayer Exec Retires
MENOMONEE FALLS, WI—Timothy Burton will retire as president of Burton & Mayer effective January 2015, the company announced. He will, however, continue in his role as chairman of the board. Moving into the role of president will be his cousin and partner, James Burton. In addition, Tim Burton’s daughter, Jenny Burton-Ziemann, will become a partner and vice president, making her the fourth generation family member in a leadership role at Burton & Mayer.
Kraft Buys World Marketing
MILWAUKEE—Wisconsin businessman Bobby Kraft has acquired Omaha, NE-based World Marketing from Berkshire Hathaway. Kraft is also president and CEO of First Edge Solutions, a Milwaukee-based printing and document management provider that also has production facilities in Phoenix and Atlanta and satellite offices in Chicago, San Diego, New York and St. Louis.
Landa Gets Entrepreneur Nod
REHOVOT, ISRAEL—Benny Landa, the founder of the Indigo press and the acknowledged father of digital printing, was named Israeli entrepreneur of the year during the Journey conference, sponsored by Ernst & Young and Israeli business newspaper Globes. Landa has more than 800 patents to his name and his awards include the Edwin H. Land medal awarded for achievement in the printing and imaging industry.
Printer Consolidates Plants
CARY, IL—Graphic Arts Studio, a full-service sheetfed printer serving the Chicagoland area, is consolidating its South Barrington and Cary Point Drive locations into its 45,000-square-foot facility here, according to the Northwest Herald. The new location will result in more than 60 jobs being relocated to the facility.
