BROOKFIELD, WI—Commercial printer Wisconsin Web Offset will be relocating its services to J.B. Kenehan facilities in Beaver Dam and Waukesha, WI, over the next several months. Both organizations are members of the Mittera Group, a multi-platform communications company headquartered in Des Moines, IA.
Verso/NewPage Is Finalized
MEMPHIS, TN—Print and specialty papers producer Verso Paper announced it has reached a settlement with the U.S. Department of Justice that enabled it to complete the acquisition of NewPage Holdings. As part of the settlement process for the $1.4 billion deal, first announced Jan. 6, Verso had to first divest NewPage mills in Biron, WI, and Rumford, ME. Catalyst Paper acquired those two mills.
DG3 Swings Assets Deal
JERSEY CITY, NJ—Diversified Global Graphics Group (DG3), a leading provider of global print, technology and visual communication services, has obtained the assets of Digital Publishing Solutions (DPSI). A provider of cloud-based document management and automated publishing technology, DPSI has developed and deployed DPSIDox, a cloud-based document management technology providing workflow, collaboration and stylized document management.
Howard, 91, Presstek Founder
HUDSON, NH—Robert Howard, the inventor and innovator credited with creating the dot-matrix printer that helped fuel sales of personal computers and the founder of Howtek and Presstek—which helped usher in the digital workflow age—passed away Dec. 19 at the age of 91. Mr. Howard donated more than $100 million to various charities, including the University of New Hampshire.
AMSP/NAPL/NAQP Rebrands
LAS VEGAS—The association formerly known as AMSP/NAPL/NAQP has rebranded itself as Epicomm. The name change, announced during its Executive Leadership Summit, comes a little more than a year following the merger of the three associations. The Epicomm name represents the “epic communications” industry that its members serve.
Wide-Format Firms Combine
SAN DIEGO—858 Graphics has obtained NonStop Signs in a deal involving wide-format printing companies. The process of merging structures began last Dec. 1. 858 Graphics will be taking over all accounts and jobs through NonStop Signs. In 2010, 858 Graphics absorbed Las Vegas Printing—and its trade show services—in an effort to expand its reach. NonStop co-founders Eddie Whittaker and Josh Doeringer have retired.
Peczuh Nets Fellow UT Printer
PRICE, UT and LINDON, UT—Peczuh Printing and Printing Resource have jointly announced a definitive agreement whereby Peczuh Printing will acquire Printing Resource, which provides premium printing and fulfillment solutions to a wide variety of clients on the Wasatch Front in Utah. Both Peczuh Printing’s and Printing Resource’s owners approved the transaction. The purchase amount was not disclosed.
PGSF Hires John Berthelsen
PITTSBURGH—The Print and Graphics Scholarship Foundation (PGSF) has announced that John Berthelsen has been hired as its vice president of development. Berthelsen has a long history of activity in the industry, including volunteer associations and support of education, as well as involvement with PGSF. He has served as a director on the board for a total of 11 years and was its chair twice.
