OneTouchPoint Is Acquired
NEW YORK—Private equity firm ICV Partners (ICV) announced the acquisition of OneTouchPoint (OTP), a commercial printer and document services company. OTP was previously owned by Huron Capital Partners. Headquartered in Oak Brook, IL, OTP provides printing and document services that include digital document management, data exchange between OTP and its customers, just-in-time production and delivery, variable data printing and customized print solutions.
RRD Awarded Crain Pact
CHICAGO—RR Donnelley (RRD) has been awarded a $60 million, multiyear- agreement by Crain Communications that significantly expands the companies’ relationship through 2020. Under the terms of the agreement, RR Donnelley will produce all 15 U.S.-based Crain publications, including Advertising Age, Automotive News, Business Insurance and Crain’s New York Business.
NC Printers Come Together
RALEIGH, NC—AlphaGraphics of Downtown Raleigh has finalized its acquisition of 120-year-old Commercial Printing Co., a provider of visual communications and printing, also located in Raleigh. Commercial Printing Co., which was founded in 1894, will now operate as part of the AlphaGraphics global franchise network of locally-owned printing companies.
Canadian Paper Mill Closing
MONTREAL—Competition from a government-subsidized mill in Nova Scotia, rising operating costs and foundering demand has prompted Resolute Forest Products to close its Laurentide paper mill in Shawinigan, Quebec, The Canadian Press reported. The closure, which will take place in mid-October, will result in the layoff of 275 employees. The mill produces commercial printing paper.
Kodak, Bang Show T-Press
BRAINERD, MN—Kodak and Bang Printing, based here, used a customer event Aug. 27-28 to demonstrate the first North American installation of the Kodak Stream inkjet technology with a Timson T-Press digital inkjet web press. Kodak and Bang Printing, a book manufacturer, illustrated for customers how this combination enables greater efficiency in book production as part of their 13th annual plant tour and workshop.
Kluge, Eagle Form Alliance
ST. CROIX FALLS, WI—Brandtjen & Kluge has announced a strategic alliance with Eagle Systems to jointly market Eagle Systems’ equipment solutions to the printing and packaging industries. Under the terms of the agreement, Kluge will actively promote the Eco-Eagle Cold Foil and Cast and Cure systems. The systems are a value-added finishing solution
for cold foil applications.
Wolk, 85, Printer, Innovator
JENKINTOWN, PA—Beryl Wolk, a second-generation printer who is credited with developing the 30-
minute infomercial and other advertising innovations, passed away Aug. 24 at the age of 85. In addition to working with the Goodway Group, a printer, for many years, Mr. Wolk founded the Cable Advertising Bureau and the Internet Marketing Consortium.
Fire Strikes Paperboard Mill
NIAGARA FALLS, NY—A raging blaze struck Cascades’ Greenpac and Norampac paperboard mills here on Sept. 20, injuring two firefighters, according to The Buffalo News. It took 13 volunteer fire departments and the Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station to bring the fire—which was still smoldering two days later—under control. The Norampac facility suffered extensive damage, while the Greenpac Mill was said to be minimally impacted.
