New Web Press Creates Jobs
OKLAHOMA CITY—The addition of a new press at Quad/Graphics' plant here has bolstered the nine-year-old facility and will create 120 jobs, according to the Oklahoman. The press, a single-web Goss Sunday 4000 gapless machine, has already created more than two dozen new jobs and Quad reports it has up to 120 full- and part-time openings to fill.
RR Donnelley Inks Contract
CHICAGO—RR Donnelley has been awarded a new multiyear, multimillion-dollar, enterprise-wide print management agreement by Guideposts, a nonprofit organization. Under the terms of the deal, RR Donnelley will provide comprehensive magazine, book, direct response, forms, labels and other production and print management services, along with premedia, book fulfillment and other logistics services.
Foxfire Adds XXL Press
NEWARK, DE—Foxfire Printing and Packaging has made the decision to expand its existing printing capacity with a new 73˝, five-color manroland R900 XXL sheetfed press with coater. The printer is enjoying an economic expansion boom, fueled by an $6.5 million capital investment that will eventually add 38 new jobs.
Work Accident Claims Life
PEWAUKEE, WI—A 52-year-old employee at an xpedx facility was killed Oct. 1 after getting crushed by a five-foot stack of paper. According to the Waukesha County Sheriff's Department, Andrew Blechacz was working inside the warehouse when a shelving unit stacked with pallets of copy paper toppled over and trapped him. Emergency medical services, fire crews, employees and sheriff's department deputies worked unsuccessfully to save the victim.
Inkjet Web Press for Sheridan
CHELSEA, MI—Sheridan Books has installed an HP T360 color inkjet web press to change its book manufacturing model and meet customer demand for increased efficiency and shorter print runs. Sheridan Books serves more than 2,000 publishers focused on trade, professional, religious, scientific, medical and technical fields, and is one of the largest book print providers to university presses in the United States.
Segerdahl Pulls a 360°
WHEELING, IL—c has undergone a full-scale identity shift, rebranding itself as SG360°. The firm claims it is bringing "empirical direct marketing solutions" to the marketplace with "cutting-edge" services and capabilities, including a proprietary customer analytics model. As part of the shift, the company has acquired two new Komori Lithrone G40 (GL640) sheetfed offset presses. SG360° serves retail, financial, health care and automotive marketers.
NewPage Hashes Out Plan
MIAMISBURG, OH—NewPage Corp. has reached an agreement in principle with all of its major creditor groups concerning the terms of its Chapter 11 plan. NewPage also announced that it may sign an exit financing facility in the form of a $500 million secured term debt facility and $400 million asset-based revolving credit facility.
EDP, Herrmann Join Forces
PITTSBURGH—Enhanced Digital Printing (EDP) has completed an agreement with Herrmann Printing and Litho (HPL), whereby EDP has merged into HPL. EDP and HPL will operate under their current brands as divisions on one level, and as part of a group on a higher level. On the higher group level, expertise and technologies will be combined to leverage new cross-platform products and services.
