PAWTUCKET, RI—The MATLET Group has recapitalized and refinanced its senior and mezzanine indebtedness, combined with a new $8.5 million equity investment by Preferred Packaging Partners. The move will allow The MATLET Group to take advantage of opportunities in the CPG digital packaging market.
Edwards Installs Inkjet Web
ANN ARBOR, MI—Edwards Brothers Malloy has acquired a Ricoh InfoPrint 5000 continuous-feed inkjet press for its digital print center here. Capable of running one- to four-color text, the press claims to provide significant speed and price advantages over traditional short-run offset and digital toner printing.
Kodak Sued by Supplier
ROCHESTER, NY—Eastman Kodak is being sued by Collins Inkjet, one of its former suppliers, for suppressing competition. Kodak and Collins are the sole suppliers of inkjet inks for the Kodak Versamark line. The suit alleges Kodak is trying to muscle out Cincinnati-based Collins by telling Versamark users that getting their printheads refurbished will cost more if they use inks not made by Kodak.
Precision Adds 3D Printer
FRANKLIN, WI—Precision Color Graphics has installed a Stratasys uPrint SE Plus Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM) 3D printer. It can produce thermoplastic prototypes, models and marketing materials.
PRINT 13 Attendance Soars
RESTON, VA—The Graphic Arts Show Co. (GASC) released attendance figures for PRINT 13, held in Chicago. GASC reported a double-digit verified attendance increase over the 2012 Graph Expo event. Among the 24,695 participants, which included exhibitors and attendees, 16,728 verified attendee/buyers—up 22 percent from 2012—visited McCormick Place.
QuadMed Expands Via Deal
SUSSEX, WI—QuadMed LLC, and Novia CareClinics—companies that specialize in employer-sponsored health care management solutions and onsite primary care—have entered into a definitive agreement whereby QuadMed will acquire all of Novia CareClinics operations and merge their executive management and operations teams.
EM Printing Buys Jaco-Bryant
MEMPHIS, TN—EM Printing has purchased Jaco-Bryant Printers from American Paper Optics, the Memphis Business Journal reported. American Paper Optics acquired Jaco-Bryant on Oct. 4 following the retirement of Sam Lencke, Jaco-Bryant president. American Paper Optics initially intended to move Jaco-Bryant into its Bartlett, TN, facility, but found it would require extensive retrofitting, the paper said.
Boise Lays Off 300 Workers
INTERNATIONAL FALLS, MN—Boise Inc. scheduled nearly 300 layoffs at its paper mill here, a result of declining product consumption and the closing of three smaller paper machines that produced specialty products.
Fire Strikes Florida Printer
TALLAHASSEE, FL—A small fire Oct. 24 sent two employees of Rose Printing to the hospital with smoke inhalation, the Tallahassee Democrat reported. A book binding machine is believed to have caused the fire in the chimney flume and on the roof.
