RRD Closing Jefferson City
JEFFERSON CITY, MO—RR Donnelley (RRD) plans to close the former Von Hoffmann Press printing facility here by no later than Oct. 1, a number of media outlets have reported. The move will leave roughly 500 RRD employees without jobs. The Jefferson City plant covers 700,000 square feet of space. Von Hoffmann was obtained in a 2007 acquisition by the Chicago-based printer.
Cheney Death Spark Inquiry
FRANKLIN, OH—Cheney Pulp and Paper is under investigation by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) following the death of employee Terry Ray, who was killed when he was crushed by equipment. According to WHIO-TV in Dayton, OH, Ray, 48, was using a Bobcat skid-steer vehicle to unload a pulp dryer. Ray was apparently caught by a moving piece of the dryer, and the cause of death was listed as blunt force trauma.
Bang Completes Hess Deal
BRAINERD, MN—Bang Printing has completed its acquisition of Hess Print Solutions of Brimfield, OH. Effective with the completion, the former D.B. Hess plant in Woodstock, IL, is being consolidated into the Ohio facility, a move that eliminated about 130 positions in Illinois. The consolidation will take place over the next few months. Hess Print Solutions will become a division of Bang Printing.
Safeguard Obtains Innovative
DALLAS—Safeguard Vice President R. Scott Sutton reports that his company has completed its acquisition of Innovative Print & Media Group (Innovative). Based in the Philadelphia suburb of Phoenixville, PA, Innovative is a full-service marketing communications, print distribution and fulfillment provider.
Edwards Malloy Consolidates
ANN ARBOR, MI—In an effort to reduce excess offset manufacturing capacity and to free up resources to invest in digital manufacturing, Edwards Brothers Malloy is consolidating its two manufacturing plants here, located seven miles apart, into one facility. The move is expected to take six to 12 months, with some positions being eliminated now. Additional positions may be identified for closure as the consolidation progresses during the next year, according to company officials.
Pressroom Worker Injured
FREEHOLD, NJ—A pressroom worker at the Asbury Park Press printing plant here suffered a hand injury and was taken to a local hospital, the newspaper reported. Joe Gaire, 52, said he reached up "to grab something" and got his hand caught between the roller and cylinder of a printing press that was being prepped for a job.

Kodak Reorg Plan Confirmed
ROCHESTER, NY—Eastman Kodak's Plan of Reorganization, which allows the company to exit bankruptcy this month, has been given confirmation by the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York. Eligible creditors for the company, which filed for Chapter 11 protection in January of 2012, voted in favor of the reorganization plan.
