Aging Presses Replaced With One
VENTURA, CA—Jano Graphics recently installed a 29˝, five-color Heidelberg Speedmaster XL 75 equipped with Prinect Press Center technology. The press replaced two aging units. Technology was a key factor in the company's decision to go with the new Heidelberg. "Prinect technology enables faster makereadies, reduces job cycle times and significantly reduces makeready waste," says Larry Embley, director of sales and marketing. "For Jano, this translates into lower costs, increased capacity and 'greener efficiency.' "
The company caters to advertising agencies, universities and corporations, and already employs a 40˝, six-color Heidelberg Speedmaster CD 102 press.
Printer Chosen as Best Place to Work
OKLAHOMA CITY—For the third year in a row, Vox Printing has been recognized as one of the "Best Places to Work in Oklahoma." Vox beat more than a thousand other small- to medium-size companies (fewer than 250 employees) to be selected as the sixth best place to work in Oklahoma—coming in as the highest ranked manufacturer in the state.
Vox's score was based on employee surveys (75 percent) and company practices and benefits (25 percent). These include a company chaplain, a workout facility, profit sharing, record production/sales celebrations, a baseball field and a Frisbee golf course—all on the printer's 70-acre campus.

HUNTSVILLE—Allied Photocopy Inc. recently installed two Xerox 700 digital presses.
ARIZONA
TUCSON—West Press has received G7 Master certification, reportedly making it the only printer in Southern Arizona and one of 220 nationwide to achieve this goal.
CALIFORNIA
LOS ANGELES—The Church of Scientology will install a Goss Sunday 2000 press in early 2010, premiering a new web offset production facility in addition to an existing digital printing operation here used to produce its collateral materials and publications.
FLORIDA
JACKSONVILLE—Paramount Performance Marketing, a fully integrated marketing solutions firm and commercial printer, is installing a six-color, 23x29˝ KBA Rapida 75 sheetfed press here. The 97-year-old commercial printer plans to use the press to print both personalized direct mail and online storefront pieces.
ILLINOIS
LAKE FOREST—Adding a 40˝, seven-color, Mitsubishi 3000TP tandem perfector at Colbert Packaging is expected to satisfy customer demand for high-caliber pharmaceutical and healthcare packaging that contains increasing amounts of critical information for consumers.
NILES—Specialty Print Communications (SPC), a national print company and full-service direct mail production specialist, has purchased a Kodak Nexpress 2500 Digital Production Color Press and a Kodak Versamark CS410 Controller. The company is extending its range of Kodak Solutions, which already includes two Kodak Nexpress 2100 Digital Production Color Presses, three Versamark CS410 Controllers and eight Kodak Versamark DH6240 Printheads.
INDIANA
NEW ALBANY—Lettershop L&D Mail Masters is using a combination of HP technologies to achieve high-quality, high-productivity mail piece production. The printer is using HP Indigo, HP SmartStream and HP Specialty Printing Systems solutions, including thermal ink-jet imagers, the HP Indigo 7000 digital press and the new HP SmartStream Director end-to-end workflow solution.
KENTUCKY
CRESTVIEW HILLS—The University of Cincinnati recently honored the Flottman Co. as a Tri-State Business of the Decade winner. Out of more than 180 entries, 47 family businesses were chosen as finalists, with 12 Decade winners ultimately selected.
MARYLAND
ANNAPOLIS—Celebrating its 25th anniversary in business, Poste Haste Mailing announced expanded services. The shop handles list management, addressing and mailing for hundreds of Maryland businesses and agencies. It most recently added full-color variable printing services that allow printing, personalization, and ink-jet addressing and barcoding of direct mail pieces in one step.
ROCKVILLE—EU Services has implemented PrintStream from Streamline Solutions, a fully integrated print, direct mail and fulfillment system, to manage its diverse products and services. EU Services has also earned G7 Master Printer qualification.
UPPER MARLBORO—Concurrent with moving into its new 90,000-square-foot facility, Linemark Printing has added a 40˝, six-color Heidelberg Speedmaster XL 105 with aqueous coater; a faster prepress workflow; new extended bindery lines; and numerous workflow efficiency upgrades.
MASSACHUSETTS
FALL RIVER—RPI Printing has made several investments in its prepress division. The printer updated its color-match proofer to an Epson Stylus Pro 9880 proofing system, and also added a Quad-core server to improve process control. A third upgrade included bringing its Ramage RIP to the latest 11.0 version.
MISSOURI
ST. LOUIS—Universal Printing has installed in-line rotary trimmers on its Sunday 2000 web press. The Rima-System RS 820 trimming line, with the Model RS-34 indexing stacker, will allow Universal to eliminate costly off-line trimming and to efficiently press finish a wide variety of work.
NEW HAMPSHIRE
HANOVER—Dartmouth Printing recently purchased a Rima-System RS-610 log stacker and RS-650 log palletizer.
STRATHAM—Squamscott Press is celebrating its 60th anniversary. Since opening its doors in 1949, the printer has developed its services to provide surrounding communities with full in-house prepress, offset printing and finishing. In light of todays' environmental issues, Squamscott Press has made "going green" an initiative that it is determined to support, going so far as to make sure all its paper vendors are FSC-certified and SFI members.
NEW JERSEY
CARLSTADT—IDEAlliance has awarded UNIMAC Graphics G7 Master Printer certification.
CARLSTADT—Xeikon, a division of Punch Graphix, announced that Strategic Content Imaging (SCI) will acquire up to three additional Xeikon 8000s, bringing SCI's tally of Xeikon digital color presses to five.
NEW YORK
ROME—Cathedral Corp., a provider of transactional documents, customer care communications, personalized direct mail and e-marketing programs, has partnered with Financial Statement Services (FSSI), a print and mail outsourcing company based in California. The move will allow Cathedral to expand is geographic reach and speed delivery of services to customers.
PENNSYLVANIA
PHILADELPHIA—Two new presses have been added to the Comporto Communications arsenal: a Ricoh 906 EX black-and-white production press and a Ricoh 900 color digital press.
WARMINSTER—Old York Road Printing has installed a six-color Heidelberg Speedmaster CD 102 press, which joins existing Speedmaster CD 74 and SM 74 models.
TENNESSEE
TULLAHOMA—Business Card Inc., a 58-year-old thermography specialist catering to printers, print brokers and specialty advertising distributors, has acquired Triangle Wholesale Printing and Pad, a 77-year-old memo pad, booklet, carbonless form and envelope specialist located in Nashville, TN. The combined business has merged all operations and will maintain the new company here.
VIRGINIA
RICHMOND—Since 2004, B&B Printing has been certified to, and complied with, the ISO quality standard. Most recently, the company has been certified to ISO 9001:2008.
