Consolidated Graphics Invests in Two Xeikon 5000plus Digital Color Presses
ITASCA, IL—September 9, 2009—Consolidated Graphics Inc. (NYSE: CGX), one of the largest North American general commercial printing companies, has purchased two Xeikon 5000plus digital color presses. These presses are in addition to the Xeikon 6000s that CGX has already been using to produce high quality dust jackets for photo books.
With annual revenues in excess of $1.1 billion, CGX has 70 printing businesses in the United States, Canada, and in Prague. Consolidated Graphics has the word's largest, high-end, digital press fleet and uses these presses to produce photo products, direct mail, publishing solutions as well as traditional marketing collateral. CGX continues to invest in Xeikon technology to support peak production volumes and meet or beat stringent turnaround time requirements. The two additional Xeikon 5000plus presses will support the company's continued growth in digital print, and exemplify the company's commitment to industry-leading technology.
"The capabilities of Xeikon technology continue to impress us and are playing a key role in the development of sophisticated applications and creation of profitable business opportunities," said Ric Davis, Executive Vice President of Operations at CGX. "The acquisition of these printing presses is yet another example of how Consolidated Graphics continues to push the boundaries of digital print technology."
"We are extremely pleased that CGX has reinforced their commitment towards our company and our technology. We truly appreciate their continued support and are looking forward to a long, fruitful relationship with them," said Bram Bourgeois, President and CEO of Punch Graphix Americas.
Xeikon remains absolutely committed to meeting the changing needs and demands of its customers' businesses. One of the key benefits offered by the Xeikon technology is that it provides a clear product upgrade path to its customers. In the case of CGX, the Xeikon 5000plus presses could be easily upgraded to Xeikon 6000's to gain additional speed and monthly capacities should they desire these capabilities in the future. In addition, the Xeikon technology complements other short-run digital color devices.
Due to the many unique capabilities of Xeikon presses, there are certain components of the final product or application that can only be produced utilizing these presses. Printers may combine the Xeikon produced output in a synergistic fashion with that of short run digital color devices to create the final product, thereby adding a whole new level of flexibility to their production operations.
