Copy General, RBC Ministries Add Standard Horizon Finishing Solutions
ANDOVER, MA—Jan. 24, 2011—Standard Finishing Systems, a leading supplier of postpress and paper handling solutions for the graphic arts and print on demand markets, announced that two customers have added new saddlestitching, inspection, perfect binding and three-knife trimming efficiency to their operations.
Copy General just completed its first big personalized saddlestitching project with the shop’s new Standard Horizon StitchLiner 5500 equipped with a high-speed sheet feeder and the Standard VIVA inspection system, installed at its main production facility in Dulles, VA.
“Our client is extremely pleased with the result,” said Copy General President Ken Chaletzky. “We finished ahead of schedule and achieved 100 percent accuracy. These booklets contained confidential, personalized information, so we had zero tolerance for errors.”
Chaletzky also lauded the Standard implementation team. “We needed their support on this first project, and they were there for us. Standard was able to integrate the VIVA system with the rest of our operation, allowing us to track every sheet of paper from original carton to boxed and shipped.”
The intelligently automated StitchLiner system will feed up to 27,000 sheets per hour, and produce three-side trimmed booklets up to 200 pages. The sale was completed by Standard dealer Standard Graphics Mid-Atlantic.
Founded 32 years ago, Copy General offers a broad range of print-related services at two DC-area facilities and more than twenty overseas locations.
RBC Ministries recently added a Standard Horizon BQ-470 four-clamp automated perfect binder, equipped with the Standard Horizon HT-80 in-line three-knife trimmer, to support on-demand bookbinding at its in-plant facility in Grand Rapids, MI. The binder and three-knife trimmers intelligent, icon-based color touchscreens provide quick, easy and automated setup, with programmable memory for up to 200 different jobs, for instant recall of frequently-run jobs.
According to Kendell Martin, director of operations, “We spent nearly a year evaluating book binding solutions, but kept coming back to the BQ-470 and HT-80 systems. This equipment is reliable and solid; we are more than satisfied. This new solution is a great addition to our operations at RBC, it enables us to reduce book inventory and increase cash flow.”
On the new HT-80, precision stepper motors accurately position all guides and clamps to ensure professional quality cutting at speeds up to 1,000 cycles per hour. The sale was completed by Standard dealer Mid-State Litho.
RBC Ministries employs 70 people at its in-plant facility, which offers services that include printing, binding, warehousing and fulfillment, all geared towards fulfilling its mission of making the Bible understandable and accessible to all.
