Courier Makes Deal for Highcrest Media

NORTH CHELMSFORD, MA—Courier Corp., a book manufacturer and specialty publisher, has acquired Highcrest Media of Wilmington, MA, a provider of software and solutions that streamline the production of customized textbooks for use in colleges, universities and businesses. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed. Courier’s acquisition of Highcrest complements its recent investment in digital printing technology. Highcrest's largest customer is also a Courier client.

The book printer also reported improved sales and earnings for the quarter ended Dec. 26, 2009, the first quarter of its 2010 fiscal year, reflecting improvements in both of the company’s business segments—book manufacturing and speciality publishing. Revenues for the quarter were $63.1 million, up 6 percent from last year’s first-quarter sales of $59.6 million. Net income for the quarter was $2.8 million, compared to $0.7 million in the first quarter of fiscal 2009.
