#Ipex: C.P. Bourg to Mark 50th Anniversary, Introduce Two Finishing Solutions

LONDON—02/10/2010—Along with celebrating its 50th anniversary, Belgian print finishing specialists C.P. Bourg will be introducing a new near-line booklet solution and a sheet preparation module in Hall 19, Stand E-730.

C.P. Bourg is launching a new near-line booklet-making solution at IPEX in Birmingham (stand 19-E730) which has been designed to accept stacks of output directly from most of the leading high-volume digital color printers as well as Xerox Docutech and Nuvera models, Océ Varioprint 5000 and Kodak Digimaster black and white engines. With a maximum format of 364 mm x 571mm, the Bourg BSF is the only feeder that can accept the largest sheet size currently printable on high-volume printers.

The unique design of the Bourg BSF sheet feeder allows the operator simply to wheel the output from the printer to the feeder, which will then align the stack and feed at up to 12,000 sheets per hour. Optional devices include the BCMe sheet preparation module, which performs a bleed-trim and rotary creasing. The rotary creasing is a world-first in this class of machinery and permits the BSF to crease every sheet or just the covers sheets at full rated speed.

The Boug BMe booklet-maker completes the line with a powerful stitch, fold and trim system that produces booklet of up to 120 pages in one pass. All the latest C.P. Bourg s.a. products are controlled from a single intuitive touch-screen user interface to allow accurate programming by any operator.

“There is a growing demand for highly productive and easy-to-use near-line finishing systems that can be linked to workflow via networks or intelligent marks on the paper being processed”, says C.P. Bourg’s marketing manager, Eric Le Moine. “The launch of the Bourg BSF system provides a solution that adds value to the print process while being usable by the same operator who is running the press. Users like near-line because it offers the ultimate in flexibility while still enabling connection to workflow.”

C.P. Bourg s.a. is using Ipex as the European launch for their new BCMe sheet preparation module. Designed for using in-line with high-volume color printers such as Xerox’s iGen4 and with Bourg’s own BSF high-speed sheet feeder, the BCMe incorporates a number of unique features.

“It is a fact that many digitally printed sheets need to be creased before folding to prevent toner cracking,”, says Bourg’s marketing manager Eric Le Moine “but it is also a fact that customers investing in high-speed digital presses cannot afford to slow down the process to accommodate slow finishing devices. Our unique rotary creasing form allows the positioning of the crease on the sheet within the most demanding high tolerances, without stopping the sheet.” High grade optical detectors combined with smart electronics read the lead edge of the sheets as they pass through the system and activate the rotary creaser to perform a crisp crease that is operator adjustable for depth. In the same process, up to 25mm of bleed trim can be performed on each edge of the sheet.

Another unique feature is that the Bourg BCMe is designed to accept the largest (364mm x 571mm) sheet size printable on high-volume flat sheet color digital presses. “We see a lot of requests for A4 landscape booklets” says Bourg’s Mr Le Moine. “With the BCMe we can now offer this, both in-line with the printers or as part of a near-line solution with our BSF sheet feeders.
