Dartmouth Printing Achieves Closed-Loop Color Control with Second Goss Sunday Press
HANOVER, NH—June 23, 2011—Dartmouth Printing Co. (DPC) has added a second Goss Sunday 2000 web offset press to its facility, signaling the completion of its objective to achieve automated closed-loop color control throughout the entire plant.
The new press features nine units and produces a four-color signature with the ability to lay an additional PMS color. Operating two such Goss presses not only significantly increases capacity at DPC, but ensures that every job is produced to the highest quality available through up-to-the-minute closed-loop technology. PMS and four-color ink density is electronically scanned and adjusted up to 166 times an hour. The Sunday 2000 presses can also deliver high-clarity stochastic screening with screen rulings up to 175 lines per inch. Larger trim sizes are also accommodated (up to 9x11”) on the Sunday Press’ 38" width roll.
In addition to the new Sunday press, DPC installed two new Muller Martini saddlestitch units, featuring in-line mailing capability; bar code signature recognition, stream feeders and an auto makeready system―further enhancing DPC’s production efficiency and overall capability for journal and magazine publishers.
DPC’s commitment to harnessing the latest technologies extends beyond the plant floor. As part of an overall initiative throughout The Sheridan Group companies, DPC offers its customer base the most powerful content dissemination technologies available, through product offerings such as digital and mobile editions, mobile applications, and print-to-mobile QR codes. On-site postal expertise and cost-effective co-mail solutions are done in-house, and powerful production tools such as Proteus, The Magazine Manager™, and SendMyAd are also available. Dartmouth’s longevity in the print services arena is underpinned with the deepest levels of customer and consultative service in the industry.
The new Sunday press began producing work in June, to impressive results. “The print quality that we are able to achieve through the Sunday 2000 Press is recognized as the best in our industry. The gapless technology produces a consistent product that is equal to or better than sheetfed printing, at speeds up to 50,000 impressions per hour. The production efficiencies it offers means that we can continue to deliver high quality printing on even faster schedules. We are delighted to have not one—but two—of these state-of-the-art double web presses in house,” said Jack Elliott, vice president of operations.
DPC is now uniquely positioned among mid-size print facilities across the country as being one of, if not the most, full-service, leading-edge print and publishing services provider to magazines, special interest publications, and science, technical and medical journals.
