Mittera Group's Purchase of Pioneer Graphics Marks Its Ninth Acquisition Since 2007
DES MOINES, Iowa—November 12, 2015—Mittera Group, a multiplatform communications company based here, has announced that it will acquire the business of Pioneer Graphics, a longtime Waterloo commercial printer. This is the company’s ninth acquisition since 2007.
The Pioneer Graphics business will be combined with Mittera Group’s Colorfx facility in Waverly. Colorfx, which also operates facilities in Urbandale and Boyden, is Iowa’s largest commercial printer.
Pioneer Communications will continue to operate its publishing business in Des Moines under the direction of Polly Clark, publisher.
Jon Troen, Mittera Group president, and Jim Slife, Pioneer Graphics CEO, do not anticipate any significant job losses due to the consolidation, and the majority of employees will transition into the Colorfx-Waverly facility.

Pioneer Graphics is well known for producing a variety of commercial printing projects, as well as The Iowan and many other magazines, books and programs.
Slife, who will remain with the business going forward, stated his decision to sell is in the best interest of its employees and customers. "It is important to us that our printing business remain in the Cedar Valley, and that our employees have future growth opportunities. It’s also important that the combined companies will have expanded capabilities and be able to provide additional services to our customers," he said.
Troen said Pioneer Graphics customers should expect to work with the same employees who handled their printing needs prior to the consolidation with all services staying on schedule.
