Designer Kit Hinrichs to Keynote Print UV Conference
RIVER FALLS, WI—Feb. 4, 2010—The organizers of PrintUV 2010 have announced that Kit Hinrichs, Principal and Creative Director of Studio Hinrichs, San Francisco, will keynote the third annual Print UV 2010 conference March 7-9 at the Wynn Resort in Las Vegas.
Designer Kit Hinrichs is known in the print industry for his love of what ink on paper can achieve and his encyclopedic knowledge of printing processes. He has supervised hundreds of press checks and experienced first-hand the remarkable technological innovations in printing that have occurred over the past 40 years. His grasp of printing has made him the designer of choice when paper companies seek to demonstrate the range of printing techniques possible on their products—as evidenced in his design direction of the Sappi Standard, the classic Fox River “Tools of the Trade” series, and @Issue: Journal of Business and Design.
Hinrichs was an early adopter of UV printing, and appreciates the important role that this technology must play in the future. His presentation at Print UV will focus on how UV printers can market their capabilities to the design community, especially to younger designers more accustomed to monitors and laser proofs than inks and textures.
“The value I’ve found in doing presentations like these is the opportunity to discuss with printers how to make what they do relevant for their audiences in light of competition from other media,” Hinrichs says. “Print must continually prove its relevance in order to justify the cost of its creation and distribution.”
Hinrichs has an impressive track record to show that he speaks from experience. A partner of Pentagram for more than 23 years, Hinrichs recently left to start his own independent design consultancy under the name Studio Hinrichs. Over the years, he has won hundreds of design awards for corporate communications, brand identity, packaging, editorial, exhibition design and environmental graphics.
“We are delighted that Mr. Hinrichs has agreed to kick off our third annual Print UV conference,” said Hans Ulland, co-founder and Vice President, Sales for Air Motion Systems, founding sponsor and organizer of the event. “Given his vast experience designing for print and other media, he is not only a staunch advocate of UV technology, but also a source of valuable insights printers can use in working with designers to move the newest technologies forward. We expect that Print UV 2010 attendees will derive considerable value from what he has to say.”
Hinrichs’s list of distinguished clients includes United Airlines, Sappi Fine Paper, Design Within Reach, Muzak, Gymboree, University of Southern California, Safeco, Museum of Glass, Symantec, KQED, the San Francisco Zoo, Restoration Hardware and many more. Hinrichs’ work appears in the permanent collections of the Museum of Modern Art, New York, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and the Library of Congress. He is co-author of five books, including Typewise, Long May She Wave and The Pentagram Papers, and the recipient of the prestigious AIGA medal in recognition of his exceptional achievements in the field of graphic design and visual communication.
