DGM to Present the Hard Facts About Cold Foil at GRAPH EXPO 2012
RED BANK, NJ—September 12, 2012—Diversified Graphic Machinery will showcase its full range of print enhancement technology including its latest DGM Foildex cold foil application system and DGM Filmdex UV 3D Imaging system in booth #2257 at GRAPH EXPO 2012.
“As a twelve time exhibitor in GRAPH EXPO and PRINT, we are looking forward to a highly successful Chicago show,” said Michael DeBard, president, Diversified Graphic Machinery. “We invite printers to visit our exhibit to get the hard facts about cold foil and learn how this exclusive technology can provide them with a significant edge in the packaging marketplace.”
Cold foil application directly inline on the lithographic press is rapidly being adopted by the largest packaging companies and forward looking printers across North America and Europe. Innovative product design brings print enhancement to the next level by producing effects not available to other methods and at economical prices. “These companies are increasingly turning to DGM for solutions knowing that they can find not only the correctly manufactured equipment but the expertise to provide the finished product from prepress through pressroom and finishing,” added John Hopkinson, vice president of technology, Diversified Graphic Machinery.
Previous generation cold foil application systems always used foil equivalent to the circumference of the blanket cylinder of an individual press for each sheet that passed through the machine irrespective of the amount of foil actually being applied to the sheet. These old systems carried with them a relatively high cost in foil usage where specific jobs only need foil in specific places on the sheet. The DGM Foildex unit now allows foil to be applied only where necessary and stops the foil from the back of the last image to the front of the next sheet. The use of segmented shafts also allows multiple rolls of foil to be run across the press. These latest techniques can allow foil cost saving of up to 80 percent against these older systems.
DGM has also been active with other suppliers to provide the correct consumable products for the many substrates used by today’s printers.Adhesives with varying tack levels and pigment density have been specifically developed for papers and board with low pick values so as to eliminate piling on the blankets while maintaining an excellent foil bond. Cold foil with the correct dyne level for effective overprinting, to low tack UV inks and the choice of the correct type of blankets have also been part of this program. DGM can now provide the complete application package and all applied at normal press speeds.
Similar application expertise has also been built up in the production of UV 3D imaging, previously known as cast and cure, with the new DGM Filmdex system where a 3D image is impressed into the surface of a UV varnish or coating using a reusable embossed film to provide either decorative, product identification or security features into the sheet and all at an extremely low cost. As no additional materials are added to the product this system also ticks many of the green boxes with today’s retailers.
DGM will also feature new developments in more mature print finishing methods and cost saving equipment at GRAPH EXPO.
