Donnelley Closing Mendota, IL, Plant, More than 200 Losing Jobs
CHICAGO—Windy City printing giant RR Donnelley is closing its plant in Mendota, IL, the Chicago Tribune reported. The move will result in the loss of more than 200 jobs.
Donnelley provided 60 days notice prior to the slated May 28 closure, as directed by the federal Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act for companies with more than 100 employees. According to the Tribune, RR Donnelley is one of the largest employers in Mendota, a small community with about 7,300 residents.
Mendota Mayor David Boelk called the closure “devastating,” the paper said, with numerous husband-and-wife tandems working at the facility. Boelk reportedly learned of the closure when an employee called him “in tears.”
The Mendota plant was obtained as part of RR Donnelley’s 1992 acquisition of magazine printer Combined Communication Services, according to the newspaper.
