Donnelley Expands Manufacturing Operations
CHICAGO—RR Donnelley is expanding its printing operations in Lancaster, PA, and Spartanburg, SC.
The expansions are part of the company's 2003 capital spending plan of approximately $250 million, aimed primarily at strengthening its printing capabilities.
The Lancaster expansion includes a 140,000-square-foot addition and a new wide-web gravure press. The company has yet to settle on a press vendor.
The expansion and equipment will be fully operational in early 2005. The Lancaster plant produces magazines, catalogs, retail inserts, telephone directories and financial products, such as TV Guide, The New York Times' Sunday Magazine and Reader's Digest.
The project is Donnelley's fourth major addition at the Lancaster facility in the past decade.
The Spartanburg expansion includes a 150,000-square-foot addition and two new Cerutti wide-web gravure presses. The expansion and equipment will be fully operational by mid-2003. This plant produces magazines, catalogs and retail inserts.
All three printing presses will reportedly enable RR Donnelley to provide its customers with more flexibility, shortened cycle times and greater targeting capabilities.
"Our investments in new technology significantly enhances our distributed print platform and strengthens the value we bring to our customers," says Robert Pyzdrowski, president of operations and co-leader of RR Donnelley Print Solutions. "Our continued investment in people, processes and technology demonstrates our relentless pursuit to become world-class manufacturers."
