Continuing to help push the boundaries of the inkjet revolution and expand new market opportunities, Canon U.S.A., Inc., a leader in digital imaging solutions, today announced enhancements to the Océ ProStream Series. These fast, high-productivity continuous feed inkjet presses combine the vibrant colors of offset with the versatility of digital printing and can now handle a broader range of media than before, including postcards and magazine covers.
“In 2018, 36 percent of all high-volume production inkjet systems installed in the U.S. were placed by Canon, earning the number one position in total inkjet market share for the third year running,” said Shinichi Yoshida, executive vice president and general manager, Canon U.S.A. Inc. “This is the result of listening to our customers’ needs and incorporating capabilities into our technologies and offerings that can ultimately help grow their print volume. The expanded media capabilities of the Océ ProStream Series broaden the market opportunity for Canon to better serve the commercial print industry and its end customers.”
Enhancements include the release of a new optional In-line Quality Control System enabled by a high-speed camera. This new option provides print quality feedback based on dedicated detection patterns and automatically initiates compensation measures, minimizing waste and operator intervention. In addition, Canon has enhanced the Océ ProStream with an even broader range of media, supporting paper weights up to 300gsm/300µm (~12pt), thanks to an enhanced paper transport and drying station. This feature enables customers to produce applications, such as postcards or cover materials for catalogs or magazines, on a much wider scale. The intuitive, touch-operated press allows for fast, high-quality printing easily from a user’s fingertips.
Built for productivity, the Océ ProStream produces high-quality applications printing at 1200 x 1200 dpi running at a robust speed of 262 feet per minute (80 m/min) at 22.24 inches (565 mm) web width with a 21.89 inches (556 mm) print width. The press meets the needs of the commercial print, direct mail and magazine/catalog markets by offering an inkjet press that rivals offset quality with the added benefits of digital printing, including variable run lengths and personalization. In correspondence with its targeted market, this expanded media capability makes the ProStream more equipped to serve the needs of commercial printers and benefit customers by improving overall efficiency and workflow. The continuous-feed press fits seamlessly into a workflow, providing customers with access to an intuitive, modern user interface that allows for easy integration into existing PDF workflows, IPDS and PDF DFE.
The Océ ProStream has already established its ability in the market for high-quality printing on a wide range of commodity grade offset-coated gloss, dull, matte, silk, inkjet treated and uncoated media. These enhancements are intended to provide an advantage for customers in the marketplace by providing them with a product having both high print quality and the ability to print on a wide range of commodity grade offset coated papers, while delivering inkjet flexibility, top-notch productivity, fast production and short turn-around times for promotional and graphical applications.
The broader range of media, supporting papers weights up to 300gsm/300µm (~12pt), is now standard on all presses shipping in the United States.
