Sales Executive Vice President Francis McMahon has decided to retire from Canon U.S.A., effective March 14. After joining Canon when the company acquired Océ in 2010, Francis made major contributions not only to Canon but to the greater print community as well.
With the help of Francis’s strong leadership, Canon secured the No. 1 market share in the production print market and has enjoyed consistently excellent results in that segment year after year. He also co-founded thINK, an independent community of Canon Production Inkjet customers, solution partners and print experts that became highly regarded in the industry. Francis’s willingness to help others and grow the overall print industry is a great example of Canon’s corporate philosophy of Kyosei – “all people, regardless of race, religion or culture, harmoniously living and working together into the future.’’
“All of us at Canon are very appreciative of the many outstanding contributions Francis has made during his time with us,’’ Canon U.S.A. President and CEO Sammy Kobayashi said. “His knowledge, passion and drive to succeed allowed him to achieve so much as he helped us become market leaders in production printing.’’
Canon is committed to remaining No. 1 in the market and helping our customers continue to grow. That growth will come from an impressive portfolio of existing products, innovative new products on the horizon and the outstanding service and support for which Canon is known.
“On behalf of thINK, I would like to extend our heartfelt congratulations to Francis McMahon on his well-deserved retirement,’’ said Pete Studer, CEO, Impact Printing, and thINK President. “Over the past 10-plus years, Francis has been a steadfast advocate for the thINK user community, and his dedication to supporting our customers has been invaluable. Looking forward, we are confident that Canon will continue to build on the strong foundation ensuring ongoing support and growth for our customers for many years to come.”
Other industry leaders also expressed deep appreciation for Francis’s contributions and said they looked forward to continuing to grow with Canon.
“Over the years, Canon has been an essential partner in driving innovation and supporting our industry, and Francis McMahon has played a pivotal role in that success,’’ said Eric Hollingsworth, Vice President of Operations, RevSpring, and INg President. “As Francis moves on to this next chapter, we are confident that Canon will continue to provide the same level of outstanding support to key industry organizations like INg, ensuring ongoing growth and success for our customers in the years ahead. We wish Francis all the best.”
“During the last 15 years, Francis and his team put production inkjet printing on the map in the U.S. market with an amount of enthusiasm and passion that instilled trust among Canon’s clients in inkjet technology,’’ said Marco Boer, President, IT Strategies, Inc. “He’s created the foundation upon which Canon is now getting ready to expand upon, with two new products that will open up entirely new market segments.”
As Francis prepares to enter retirement, he looks back fondly on his career at Canon. “I have loved being part of the Canon family,’’ he said. “Canon is a strong brand that is powered by talented and passionate people. I will miss our customers, partners and my colleagues, but I am confident that Canon will continue to grow and remain a leader in the industry.’’
