New EFI (Booth 2302) digital print production innovations at PRINT 17 showcase the expanded capabilities customers can gain with EFI Fiery digital front ends (DFEs) and digital print software solutions. In addition to appearing in the EFI booth, EFI Fiery DFEs and software are running in PRINT 17 exhibits from leading digital press manufacturers, driving productivity, quality, and efficiency on many of the industry’s newest engines.
Attendees can see the EFI Fiery FS300 Pro DFE for the first time—a product for cut-sheet, high-speed continuous feed inkjet, B1 folding carton, and corrugated digital production systems. New makeready features simplify imposition layout creation and automation setup, making it easier for users to create new layout templates and automate job imposition.
The DFE includes a Fiery QuickTouch touchscreen display. It offers a centralized workstation with a 6" adjustable-height workspace, a 27" display, and a high-efficiency work area with a design that reduces the equipment footprint by more than 20%.
Management across platforms
The DFE is accompanied by version 6 of Fiery Command WorkStation. It features a clean navigation flow that is easier to use, offers more efficient ways to interact with jobs, and gives production managers better visibility through key print production statistics.
An integral part of Fiery Command WorkStation, Fiery JobEditor provides job editing functions for PSPs using wide- to superwide inkjet presses with a Fiery XF DFE. This software provides functions like nesting, tiling, step and repeat, cut marks, and other inkjet production requirements.
The latest version of EFI Fiery Impose software making its debut in Chicago is an advanced PDF-based imposition solution for Fiery DFEs driving cut-sheet print engines. With its new Dynamic Gangup Imposition automation feature, Fiery Impose can now use the trim box defined in a job to calculate the best layout for a chosen media size on the fly. Dynamic Gangup Imposition templates can be used with all Fiery automation workflows, including Fiery Hot Folders, virtual printers, server presets, and Fiery JobFlow workflows.
Advanced color profiling and support for metallics
Printing companies can assure they get superior color quality with version 5 of the EFI Fiery Color Profiler Suite. Users can also optimize spot colors, perform color quality assurance, and match color across multiple presses in a digital production environment.
This product brings gray-balanced G7 calibration to the software’s Printer Match module. Users can use G7 to calibrate presses to a near-neutral state before profiling them so the appearance of printed output matches across multiple presses consistently.
A new technology demonstration, Fiery Metallics, provides a simplified method for creating metallic shades of spot colors, including specific PANTONE colors, right at the DFE. This feature works with Fiery Driven digital presses that can apply an additional metallic ink or toner as a spot color.
Technology for textiles
The booth also features EFI’s newest textile printing DFE offering, the EFI Fiery proServer, version 6.5. Printing companies looking to expand into the growing textile imaging space can take advantage of new support for industrial textile printing, with textile-specific features such as special step and repeat handling, shrinkage correction, and support for fluorescent and diluent inks.
This DFE drives wide- to superwide-format EFI Reggiani industrial textile printers with up to 12 color channels. It combines Fiery DFE hardware, EFI color management technology, EFI Fiery Accelerated System Technology (FAST RIP), as well as maintenance and support for a complete solution that provides high performance and outstanding quality in a single package.
