The Plockmatic Group, incorporating Morgana Systems (Booth 226) and Plockmatic International, has its biggest ever presence at PRINT 17, with a 2,000 sq. ft. booth. A wide range of offline finishing products will be shown from all the key product lines, including the latest developments with the hugely successful AutoCreaser Pro and DigiFold Pro creaser/folder range.
Among the many new introductions for PRINT 17, the AutoCreaser Pro 385 will feature a new style of creasing mechanism, allowing for fast changing of the blades without tools. Users can lift out a creasing blade set, and change to another blade thickness in less than a minute.
For its bookletmaking products, Morgana is showing the latest updates to its bookletmaking systems, including changes to the new VF602 dual bin vacuum feeder. Enhancements to both the feeding system and system software in the VF602 have been made to increase and enhance productivity. It is now equipped with both ultrasonic and optical detectors, so if the set goes out of sequence, it will stop production. The system features a highly automated set-up procedure with air, vacuum, and sheet separation all set automatically with the stock selection.
The VF602 can be loaded with up to 22" of stock, and when one bin runs out of material the system automatically switches to the next. This means that, for extended production, the system can be loaded on the run. The machine is capable of feeding printed books with mixed stock, so for example if a set is produced with a heavier cover, the feeder is smart enough to detect this, and will calibrate the set including the cover for the run.
Morgana’s latest development has been to add barcode reading to the entire range of bookletmakers and feeders. Barcode reading is now being requested by many customers for a range of applications, including financial statements and pension documents, suggesting that the demand for variable page count, personalized booklets is definitely on the increase.
Latest enhancements to two of the models in the PUR binder range are being demonstrated in the U.S. for the first time. The new DigiBook 300, which can produce up to 300 books per hour, has been changed to a single-phase unit, making it much more suitable for many smaller shops and print departments where access the three phase power can be limited or expensive. The DigiBook 200 and 300 units are now able to handle covers of up to 39", giving the ability to produce landscape 11x17" finished books, with spines of up to 2" thick.
In addition to the full range of Morgana offline equipment, Plockmatic International is showing a number of in-line machines across the show at their various partner booths, including a high-capacity Interposer on the Ricoh (Booth 2022) stand, and the latest 200-page bookletmaking systems with Canon (Booth 1213) and Konica Minolta (Booth 2031). Pitney Bowes (Booth 848) is also showing the latest developments with the Pulse and DI880.
Using a variety of finishing systems, Morgana is producing some very high-quality finished documents at the show, including a 108-page United States of America PUR perfect bound book, and a Chicago Cityscapes booklet using images provided by the city of Chicago, featuring laminated and foiled covers.
