In his book Traction: Get a Grip on Your Business, entrepreneur Gino Wickman asks, “Do you have a grip on your business, or does your business have a grip on you?” and proposes what he calls the “EOS” or “Entrepreneurial Operating System,” with which thousands of small businesses have adopted to bring real, transforming change to their organizations.
Taking a cue from Wickman, Tom Trutna, Owner at BIG INK Display Graphics, presents “Getting Traction in Your Graphics Business,” today from 9 to 10:15 am in Room 333. Trutna tells his real-life story of implementing “Traction” in his wide-format graphics business and outlines how the philosophies detailed in Wickman’s book “came to life” as he was delivering a new business pitch — and have since guided his business.
Trutna shares some stories from the trenches and mixes them with his management and marketing experience to enlighten and inform business owners and managers alike.
Three key lessons:
- Explaining the five “spokes” to the traction “wheel”
- How your company core values should drive all business decisions
- Identifying the difference between “RPRS” (Right Person, Right Seat) and GWC (Get-it, Want-it, Capacity to do-it)
“Does your graphics business feel like it’s spinning its wheels, with lots of activity but little action?” asks Trutna. “Learn how utilizing EOS to gain traction to make you and your team more productive, effective and ultimately happier in your business.”
Trutna is the President and Owner of BIG INK, a visual communications company that creates branded solutions for events, exhibits and commercial environments for Fortune 1,000 companies nationwide. Trutna’s 25-year career in marketing and business management includes a tenure at General Mills and Periscope Advertising.
He is an active member and past president of the Minnesota chapter of EO (Entrepreneurs’ Organization) and is currently on the Board of Directors for the Exhibit Designers and Producers Association and is a frequent guest lecturer to entrepreneurial classes and organizations.
