PHILADELPHIA—June 24, 2015—This 2015 Gold Ink Awards entry, titled "Barnard Pocket Folder" was entered into the Folders category by MOSAIC in Cheverly, Maryland. This promotional welcome package was designed for new students at Barnard College, promising them "a college experience most only dream of...in the city that never sleeps." What makes this piece stand out are the clever diecuts and striking bright yellow, blue and black colors that were used to capture the New York City skyline.
The folder for Barnard College was produced on a KBA UV press, with a press run of 7,000 pieces. The paper used was Appleton Utopia 1XG Gloss 120# Cover. Multiple colors were also used—2PMS, four-color, spot dull varnish and spot gloss varnish. For the binding and finishing, a standard diecut, LP score, glue and fold were used.
"We initially thought that the piece would require a laser die since the diecut is more detailed than most," explained Sarah Jane Scruggs, marketing director at MOSAIC. "We worked closely with the diecutter and artist to produce a detailed cut using a standard die."
