Gold Ink Awards Entry: Gift Set Offers Fresh Approach Using Foils, Coatings, Diecuts
PHILADELPHIA — April 1, 2016 — This 2016 Gold Ink Awards entry was submitted by Arkay Packaging, a folding carton manufacturer with production facilities in Hauppauge, N.Y., and Roanoke, Va., and corporate offices in New York City.
Titled, "Red Door 2016 Holiday" and entered into the Rigid Packaging category, the gift set was designed for Elizabeth Arden's Red Door product line, and contains two components, a box and pull out diecut piece that fits three of the gifts neatly into the diecuts — a perfumed spray, body lotion, and bath and shower gel. While this makes an ideal gift for the holidays, it also seems like a fitting entry to welcome in the Spring with the bright orange, red and fuchsia flowers that grace the cover of the box.
The press run of 50,000 total sheets with two forms, was produced on an eight-color Heidelberg Speedmaster CD sheetfed press with a cold foiler and multiple flexo coaters. The board stock used for this project was supplied by Lindenmeyr Munroe. The gift set box was produced with seven to eight special colors using UV inks, and was coated in-line with UV Gloss and Soft Touch coatings.
On the binding and finishing end, hot foil stamping and embossing was applied, and the piece was then diecut, stripped and assembled. The production of this gift package involved critical embossing depth and registration, and the coating needed to be stampable.
"A combination of great design coupled with the Kromecote paper, special coatings, hot stamping and embossing brought this graphic to life," says Walter Shiels, COO of Arkay Packaging.
