PHILADELPHIA—June 19, 2015—This 2015 Gold Ink Awards entry, titled "TV Land Press Kit," was entered into the Media Kits category by JohnsByrne of Niles, Illinois. What stands out the most about this fun promotional kit are the colorful designs and the clever diecutting that were used. The three-piece TV Land Press Kit—featuring a book, sleeve and shipper—was designed to promote a new comedy show called "Younger" that airs on the TV Land channel. The kit was printed on a six-color Komori Lithrone (GL-640) offset press, for a press run of 1,400 pieces.
The material used to produce the perfect-bound book within the package was a 60-pt. chip wrapped in Hyflex 7 covering material from FiberMark. The internal pages consisted of 20-pt. C1S SBS convertible paperboard. For the sleeve, 18-pt. C2S was used, and the shipper was 32-pt. Glacier. Some of the special effects that were applied included soft-touch, foil, spot dull varnish and gloss UV coating.
According to Michael DiFranco, vice president of marketing at JohnsByrne, one challenging part of producing the "TV Land Press Kit" was creating the diecut letters in the sleeve. "Certain words were diecut to be less visible and to give an alternate meaning, whether the words were visible or not. This, in turn, created a great visual effect. Additionally, the ability to diecut this tight and small with such precision and quality was a real success of the project."
DiFranco added that one of the unique features about this kit was the perfect infusion of structure with the coatings, varnishes and the foil stamping.
