Graph Expo Must See 'Ems 2016 Legacy Award Recognizes Xerox DocuColor iGen3
ORLANDO, Fla. — September 26, 2016 — After two rounds of voting, the Must See 'Ems Selection Committee announced the Xerox DocuColor iGen3 Digital Production Press the 2016 Must See 'Ems Legacy Award winner for representing a technology that has had a significant, lasting, and continuing influence on the graphic communications industry. The selection was announced and the award presented at the conclusion of the 2016 Executive Outlook Conference on Sunday, Sept. 25 immediately prior to the show opening of Graph Expo 16, which runs through Sept. 28, 2016 at the Orange County Convention Center-North in Orlando, Fla.
The iGen3, a Must See 'Ems Award winner in 2001, was chosen by a selection committee of industry experts, journalists, and consultants who were tasked with singling out a former Must See 'Ems product that has motivated and inspired real innovation and change.
"When this product was introduced to the graphic communications industry it received immediate acclaim," says NPES President Thayer Long. "Since that time it has helped engineer a sea-change in the industry by proving that production digital imaging could compete in speed, quality, and productivity with the then-dominant offset technology."
Comments from members of the Selection Committee included:
- "The dominance of modular, medium-format production presses with field-replaceable components was assured by the popularity and efficacy of the iGen3."
- "The iGen franchise is still performing strongly and it helped to launch that line of production equipment to mainstream status."
- "Xerox showed that the science of digital imaging could be applied in a workable, practical way to a printing press that emulated the look, size, speed, and quality of the standard of the day-offset printing. The iGen3 became the paradigm that directed digital press design from the time of its development to today."
