GRAPH EXPO Product Preview
Here's an exclusive, pre-show preview showcasing new products and services submitted by several exhibitors that will be displaying their wares at GRAPH EXPO 2010 in Chicago from Oct. 3-6.
The Presstek 75DI is a highly automated, 29˝ digital offset press that is available in four- to 10-color configurations. It is also available with an optional coater and a full range of productivity options. The 75DI features 300 lpi or stochastic screening, six-minute, job-to-job turnover and a small environmental footprint.
Hewlett-Packard will display its new portfolio of digital printing solutions, including the HP Indigo 7500 digital press, and HP Scitex LX800, FB700 and Designjet Z5200 large-format printing technologies.
The Sterling Digipunch will be showcased by Spiel Associates. Designed for digital and commercial printers, it can punch up to 60,000 sph. It features a variable pile lift, which allows for slowing the machine down for difficult jobs, and can punch sheets with covers or tabs intermixed. A touchscreen automates setup/changeovers and prompts operators when to lubricate or sharpen the die. The machine can punch sheets from 41⁄2x51⁄2˝ to 12x14˝ for comb, coil and double-loop wire—or any hole pattern. Spiel will also display its Sterling Doublebinder, a layflat perfect binder that can bind up to 300 books/hr. It glues the spine, as well as between the sheets. Books dry instantly with no messy cleanup.
manroland will showcase several new offset products, including the R700 HS (up to 18,000 sph); the R900P large-format perfecting press; and autoprint, for advanced sheetfed automation. The company will also introduce Inline Impress, a coating embosser, futureproofing on sheetfed presses and foiler indexing.
The GammStack compensating stacker will be featured by GammTech Corp. Using a patent pending, two-grid indexing system, it delivers precisely aligned bundles for a wide variety of basis weights, even at high press speeds.
The Print+ Messenger color inkjet system will be shown by Pitney Bowes. Providing full-color envelope printing capability on high-speed inserting systems, the system allows users to add colorful, data-driven messages; postal barcodes; addresses; and relevant marketing offers to the outside of an envelope. Print and mail operations can use white envelope stock to eliminate pre-printed envelope storage, improve inventory management, merge jobs and increase postal density for greater postal discounts.
The TA-25 multi-side tabber will debut from Neopost. The TA-25 offers production speeds of up to 25,000/hr. and booklet tabbing (2+1, side-to-side) at 15,000 pieces/hr. The tabletop tabber simultaneously applies up to three tabs to the top and side or opposite sides of a booklet or self-mailer.
Several integrated solutions will be featured by Kodak Co., including the Prosper press platform, Nexpress presses, Unified workflow solutions, Magnus platesetters, Trillian plates and Flexcel for packaging.
The Ricoh Pro C900 and C720 color production systems will be highlighted by Ricoh Americas. The Pro C900 can print at 1,200 dpi color output and at speeds to 90 ppm. Extensive workflow solutions include the ability to integrate with a number of software options. Both the C900 and C720 offer Web-to-print capabilities; and applications for personalization and variable data printing, transpromo initiatives and integrated marketing campaigns.
The new Cornerounder paper cutter will be introduced by Lassco-Wizer. The latest floor model is capable of cutting a 2˝ stack of product in one motion. Also displayed will be paper drills, paper joggers, numbering equipment, staplers and other corner cutting products.
The latest version of the PersonalEffect cross-media solution will be featured by XMPie. Version 5.0 includes new capabilities that advance VDP performance and productivity, provide better integration between the creation of print and e-media communications in cross-media campaigns, and further simplify personalized e-mail processes.
Agfa Graphics' :Apogee 7 will debut. The newest version of Agfa's workflow management suite includes :Apogee Impose and APPE 2.5, Adobe's PDF renderer. Print buyers can create new jobs in the prepress stage with Web- Approval. Printing companies with digital inkjet printing can manage file distribution to different printers with their own application.
Konica Minolta Business Solutions will showcase its bizhub PRESS C8000 color digital press. It combines stable, high-quality, full-color output with an extensive array of in-line finishing options at production speeds up to 4,800 impressions/hr. The bizhub PRESS C8000 offers an alternative to full-color offset systems.
KBA North America will introduce its new Rapida 75 E 23x29˝ press, which cuts down makeready times by more than 30 percent. It is available with an optional output of 16,000 sph and can handle stock up to 30-pt. thick.
New Goss Sunday Vpak packaging presses will be highlighted by Goss International. Available in widths up to 75˝, Vpak presses feature gapless blankets and quick-change sleeve technology for variable repeat capabilities. Folding carton and label producers can exploit productivity, print quality, process automation and short-run agility.
GMC Software Technology will demonstrate new software solutions to create, manage and produce multi-channel customer communications, all from a single source. These include high-impact, personalized communications campaigns.
technotrans america will display its centralized water-cooling system that can handle higher heat and power loads. It allows placement of one remote condenser on the roof, and requires no refrigeration.
Several products will be featured by Muller Martini, including its SigmaLine, a scalable digital book manufacturing solution; ASIR3 signature image recognition; Orbit three-knife trimmer for reducing makeready times; VSOP print tower designed for flexible packaging and label markets; new strapper technology that alleviates jams; MM Services' service program; and the latest in saddlestitching technology.
Vijuk Equipment will present its Vijuk MV-10 outsert system that can fold pharmaceutical inserts and outserts with up to 170 panels, handling sheets sizes up to 203⁄4x40˝. Capable of speeds of up to 14,000 cph, it can fold 111⁄4x191⁄8˝ 27-lb. sheets into finished outserts as small as 11⁄8x11⁄8˝ with 170 panels that will fit on bottle caps.
The BBH MAILStream Inveloper will be on display by BÖWE BELL + HOWELL. The system combines envelope manufacturing and mailpiece assembly into a continuous workflow, freeing operations from the limitations of traditional envelope manufacturing, including storage, handling and long lead times. It also reduces waste and offers an environmentally-friendly solution for production mail; and leverages transpromotional capabilities and color digital printing.
In addition to the COMMERCIAL Autoplaten diecutter, from Bobst Group North America, the VISIONFOLD with HANDYFEEDER features high-speed folding plus stream regulation for high gluing quality along with a "pick and place" feeder that separates blanks without feeder marks or interlocking.
Sabin Robbins, a fine paper merchant specializing in purchasing, warehousing, converting and distributing job lot and overrun paper, offers a large inventory, custom converting of fine paper products and just-in-time delivery at value pricing.
The RS-34 indexing compensating counter stacker will be presented by Rima-System. It features upper-bin indexing technology, a servo pusher and laser counter, and a full-color touchscreen with active help interface.
EFI will showcase its product portfolio, including print production workflow and management information software (PrintSmith, Pace, Monarch, Radius, Digital StoreFront and others), Fiery digital print servers and solutions, VUTEk super-wide printers, Rastek wide-format printers, Jetrion industrial inkjet systems, and Bestcolor-driven proofing and wide-format production solutions.
MWV-Envelope Products Group will highlight its Executive line of envelope products and its new brik-pak envelope packaging/delivery system for increasing mail processing efficiency.
EskoArtwork's Suite 10 software features a centralized color management server; high-performance proofing, screening and printing output across conventional and digital print devices; and collaboration and content management for critical packaging content.
Therm-O-Type will introduce the Zip-TS1, a programmable cutter/slitter that offers finishing flexibility for digital output. It also offers diecutting, cross-creasing and perforating, with cross-cutting and in-line slitting, scoring, perforating and semi-slitting.
Several new solutions in production printing, monochrome cutsheet output, display graphics and workflow software will be introduced by Océ North America, Production Printing Systems. The new systems are designed for short-run books, transaction marketing, personalized mailings, display graphics and more.
Baum's new 714XLT Ultrafold air/vacuum-feed folder combined with the GMS Microglue control and glue head system can produce multiple self-mailer impositions. The 714XLT-4G has a four-gun cold glue system, and can produce half and letter fold self-mailers. The 714XLT-8G has eight cold glue guns producing half, letter, Z and double parallel solutions.
The Pantone Plus Series—which replaces the Pantone Matching System—will be highlighted by Pantone LLC. The new series provides designers and printers with new capabilities and features, including a chromatic arrangement of colors for more intuitive selection; an expanded palette of spot colors; new, premium metallics and neons; and accompanying Pantone Color Manager software.
Foster Keencut will demonstrate the Evolution precision cutter. It can accurately cut within 0.008˝ and can be mounted onto a preexisting table. Also on display will be the precision SteelTraK that can cut up to 1⁄2˝-thick, rigid substrates.
The Finecut 350MM combination sheet/rollfed laser diecutting machine will be demonstrated by Spartanics Ltd. Booth visitors can bring material applications for an onsite analysis of the material substrate using laser diecutting.
Dorstener Wire Tech manufactures and sells stitching wire products for the printing and binding industry. Its production facilities are located in Dorsten, Germany, and Spring, TX.
Xerox Corp.'s Color 800/1000 presses can print at up to 80 and 100 ppm, respectively, at 2,400x2,400 dpi on a wide range of paper stock. Both presses are ideal for applications such as sales collateral and direct marketing pieces. An optional clear dry ink station allows printers to add effects for visual impact, such as highlighting text or images.
Fujifilm Graphic Systems Div. will present its four-up Fujifilm Digital Inkjet J Press 720 press. Combining features of digital and offset printing, the press provides high quality, speed and flexibility. It has the look and feel of offset, with the versatility and job handling capabilities of digital. It can print up to 2,700 28.3x20.5˝, four-up size sheets/hr. (regular coated offset stocks), and uses water-based, eco-friendly ink for an offset-like finish and quality.
Digitally printed UniKeep binders, from Univenture Inc., are ideal for organizing frequently updated material, as well as increasing branding and sales response. Users can create a one-of-a-kind message, offering complete customization for targeted markets.
Quickson Premium ink, a new solvent-free ink that is formulated to deliver high performance, dot retention, color vibrancy and reliability, will be introduced by Van Son Holland Ink. The ink can run on all sheetfed presses, making print jobs faster and more balanced.
The new 5222 Digicut hydraulic cutter will be featured by MBM Corp. The latest addition to the Triumph cutter line, the 201⁄2˝ 5222 Digicut features a programmable backgauge module with a digital display capable of storing 99 programs with up to 99 steps each. The fully adjustable hydraulic clamp makes it ideal for digital applications.
NELA will highlight its fully automated, On-Press Register Control (OPRC) solution that provides color register and cutoff control. It can be installed on new and used presses. Features include an automatic, self-cleaning mechanism on the cameras and user-friendly touchscreen operation with proprietary NELA software.
A new Ecocool UV curing system will be shown by Prime UV Systems. Designed for double- and triple-wide newspaper and commercial web publication presses, the system can achieve speeds of up to 90,000 iph.
Two new Web-to-print products, Web Cloud and Office Cloud, will be featured by WitPrint Technology USA. The software handles prepress Web front- and back-office tasks with upload and design tools, instant PDF proofs, as well as e-commerce and customer service/shipment features.
PrintGuard Inc. will show PerfectBlack steel impression cylinder jackets for Heidelberg, Komori, Mitsubishi, Akiyama and Shinohara offset printing presses. Their nano-coated surface offers durability and ink repellency.
CRC Information Systems will demonstrate its latest business management software. Nucleus includes customizable dashboards, industry-specific estimating, flexible reporting and fully integrated CRM. The software also includes accounting tools, drag-and-drop scheduling, inventory management and a complete e-commerce suite.
The InfoPrint 5000 MP, a smaller footprint member of the InfoPrint 5000 family, will be displayed by InfoPrint Solutions. The high-speed inkjet platform can run a variety of inks and fluids. It can be utilized in various configurations, including twin-engine, monochrome duplex and coupling with the InfoPrint 5000 to optimize production of documents using MICR.
Hyperchill process chiller technology will be featured by Parker. Chillers are available for internal and external installation and are equipped with microprocessor intelligence.
The DC-745 slitter/cutter/creaser will be highlighted by Duplo USA. The high-production digital color finisher can perform up to 10 slits, 20 cuts and 15 creases in a single pass. It is ideal for finishing digital color applications including business cards, greeting cards and brochures.
Xitron LLC will introduce the Navigator Elite and Xenith Sierra prepress workflows with the KeySetter Connect digital ink-key setting system.
Whittier Mailing Products' Barcode Tagger is an on-demand, networkable, wireless system used to print USPS-certified I.M.B. tray tags and labels. It accepts files in Mail.Dat format, with translators available for most presort programs. Besides wafer seals and tabs, Whittier now manufactures custom labels: short or long run, blank to four-color.
Dalim Software's ES 1.1 customer-facing environment for online file delivery and approval lets operators easily simulate label/package print processes or ink characteristics for soft proofing. "Enterprise project tracking" and "custom job ticket" define project tasks and deadlines. Job tickets use industry standards, making ES an information hub for supply chain partners.
Avanti Computer Systems will highlight the latest additions to its JDF-certified product line. HP's SmartStream integration rounds out its portfolio of digital workflow automation, which include Xerox Freeflow and Kodak Prinergy integrations. Heidelberg Prinect also adds to its portfolio of offset automation.
MatrX adhesives, a clean, instant-bonding alternative to tapes and glues, will be featured by Glue Dots International. The adhesives are ideal for postpress applications such as assembling pocket folders and attaching gift cards.
Equinox, a new tablet publishing solution, will be introduced by ProImage America. It allows publishers to participate in the tablet publishing market, without the need to employ in-house technical expertise. Input to Equinox may be via any source of editorial or CMS system, as well as live feeds. Equinox will reformat the data and publish it to e-readers.
The PlateStream CF4 platesetter from Printware LLC, is a chemistry-free, polyester CTP system. PolyStream CF plates can produce up to 30,000 impressions. The PlateStream CF4 incorporates clean-out technology with a high-precision drum imaging system for short-run color work.
The Koilmatic tabletop electric automatic coil inserter/finishing system will be presented by Gateway Bookbinding Systems. Designed for the digital printing market, it is available in the 0.2475˝ pitch (which fits the best on 81⁄2x11˝, A4 and A5 book sizes). It can handle coil diameters from eight to 20mm. Fully electric, it can achieve production speeds of up to 450 books/hr.
Nitta Corp. of America will showcase its complete belting line for printing and bookbinding, including the new FP35-05-50 indexing puncher for finger-splice belting. It can punch 35x5mm pitch fingers for narrow Nitta 4E-type belts and for stronger splices in Nitta 8E-type belts.
The Mohawk Loop line of papers will be highlighted by Mohawk Fine Papers. Made with renewable energy and post-consumer fiber, the comprehensive line of recycled and environmentally preferable papers offers designers and printers an environmentally-friendly alternative.
DYC Supply Co. will showcase DYC/Kinyo printing blankets. With a blanket thickness within +/-0.0008˝ from roll to roll, the manufacturing process eliminates surface imperfections, eliminating washup on press startup.
MGI USA will display its JETvarnish digital inkjet spot UV coater. It can accommodate sheets up to 20x40˝ at speeds of up to 0.8m/sec. The coater also offers full variable data capabilities, as well as ozone-free operation. It is ideal for runs from one to thousands for a wide range of applications such book covers, marketing collateral and packaging.
(KDX Films) Genertec America will highlight its new laminating film. Scuff-resistant OPP matte will also be highlighted, along with PET for the traditional book and trade markets.
The WaveJet V2.5 inkjet print system, for printing variable data on coated stocks, plastics and foils, will be featured by Kirk-Rudy. It features a larger, 2.5˝ print head that utilizes VersaDrop technology. VersaDrop allows the size of the ink droplet to change on-the-fly, resulting in sharper text and improved grayscale images.
Rollem International will display the Champion Automatic 2D Finisher. Ideal for multiple-up photo cards, greeting cards and postcards, the finishing system eliminates guillotine cutting and additional manpower. It performs bi-directional slit, score, perf and pattern perfing with a smaller footprint—press sheet to finished product in one step.
A new perfect binding system will be debuted by Standard Finishing Systems. The Standard Horizon CABS 6000 can produce up to 6,000 books/hr. The 17-clamp system is automated from end-to-end with touchscreen control, and is designed for quick and easy changeovers between conventional EVA and PUR adhesives to meet varying customer application requirements. The system can be expanded from six to 36 gathering stations, and includes in-line three-knife trimming.
Spiral Binding will highlight its Snake Skin Wire-O that can be used in any automated spool wire machine. Providing all the benefits of spooled wire, it also offers increased productivity, eliminates waste caused by tangled wire, and reduces storage and handling costs.
FlexCoat-EZ, a new flexible magnet that offers a smooth, printable coated surface, will be introduced by Flexmag Industries. Created without adhesives, FlexCoat-EZ can print on most common printing equipment, including digital, offset, flexo and screen. It is also 100 percent recyclable and contains no phthalates.
Three printer lines that include 18 different inkjets will be showcased by Atlantic Zeiser, including Delta grayscale printers that can print at speeds of up to 1,000 fpm; a Gamma full-color printer in 2.75˝ and 5.5˝ widths; and Omega digital UV inkjets in 360 and 720 dpi.
RISO Inc. will highlight its ComColor series, which can print up to 150 color ppm for half the operating costs of comparable toner-based MFPs. The ComColor series is capable of producing up to 500,000 pages/month. The company will also display its RISO MZ1090 two-color, single-pass digital duplicator. It combines 150 ppm, two-color printing with 600x600 dpi imaging and printing capabilities. It is also capable of producing up to 600,000 pages/month. Both systems are Energy Star qualified.
A new environmentally friendly roll slitter will be displayed by SPH Pressroom Parts. The roll slitter offers exchangeable replacement tips, with or without injected steel blades for film, paper and cardboard.
Meadows Publishing Solutions will launch DesignMerge, a software suite available for Adobe InDesign. The software offers mail-merge, variable data printing and data publishing functionality. It can import text, picture or article information from most data sources, merging it directly into document layouts to produce personalized output for any PostScript printer, including high-end digital presses.
Videojet Technologies will feature its BX6000 Series binary array graphics printers for printing addresses, barcodes, maps and promotional messaging in a wide range of applications. Also highlighted will be the Videojet 4320 inkjet addressing and imaging system and the Cheshire 7000 Series transport bases. The vacuum and friction transport systems optimize product feed and reduce vibrations to enhance print quality, even at high speeds.
The next generation of Toyo Inks will be unveiled by Toyo Ink America. The new inks include Hy Plus 100 Nex, Hy Plus EC Nex and Hy Unity Nex.
Essex Products Group (EPG) will highlight several products, including its KeyColor digital control system that automates ink-key settings to reduce makeready time and paper waste, and presets jobs from any ink desk. Also highlighted will be the new ColorSpec color measurement system that closes the loop for automated color correction; and the ColorInspec system that features an open loop defect detection system.
LithoTechnics Inc. will debut Metrix 2010.0, a system that automatically determines the number of layouts required and optimum product placement on each layout. The system also finds the most cost-effective printing method, press and sheet size, and then generates the imposition data—before prepress.
Tompkins Printing Equipment is showcasing new and pre-owned digital, direct-to-plate, press, bindery and computerized finishing systems.
The proColor Series of web and sheetfed presses will be highlighted by OKI Data Americas. The pro510DW delivers short-run continuous web printing with 12.5˝ width and high-speed roll-to-roll capabilities producing color labels and more. The pro900DP sheetfed press prints color envelopes and postcards, as well as a variety of other products, utilizing an embedded EFI-Fiery controller. Both presses are ideal for on-demand printing within production houses.
The new 7200 laminating system will be featured by Cosmo Films/GBC Commercial. Suited for trade finishers and printers, it can run at speeds of up to 125 fpm, with a maximum sheet size of 30x40˝.
The WLK10 shredder will be featured by WEIMA America. WLK Series shredders feature large hoppers, which enable a "dump and run" process that helps prepare waste to receive the highest yield from mills or recyclers.
Prism's mobileMIS—an extension of the Prism WIN management information system and QTMS production management system—lets users stay in contact, via mobile phones and browsers, with what is happening in a production facility. Access includes Key Performance Indicator business performance; mobile quotations; warehouse management; and machine, job and performance monitoring.
FOLEX Imaging GmbH will present its Folabase SOFT (non-adhesive and adhesive) smash-resistant underpacking made of polyester and soft polyurethane. The paper-like flexibility of the one-piece underpacking facilitates handling and reduces makeready time. It is available in various gauges to suit all major printing presses.
L2 Inc. will highlight Fuse, a cross-media platform designed to deliver any digital message to any digital device. Combining e-mail, print, mail, PURLs, mobile and social media channels, Fuse enables print services providers to implement integrated campaigns of any complexity.
B&W Press will highlight its Mini "Slim" Catalog mailers. Available in six, eight or 10 pages (with or without a business reply envelope), the catalog mailers can be personalized both inside/outside, can be sealed without wafer seals, and mail at the USPS automated letter rate.
EAE Ewert Ahrensburg Electronic GmbH will introduce the EAE loop, a mark-less, closed-loop ink control system loop that can detect small color deviations early on in the process, reducing waste and saving operator time. The system can also be retrofitted into existing installations.
GMS manufactures microglue, a complete line of hot and cold adhesive application equipment, as well as microgluer, an integrated folding machine and glue system designed to handle most direct mail applications including half folds, letter folds, Z folds and double parallel folds both with and without side perforation.
The Challenge CMT series of on-demand book trimmers will be featured by The Challenge Machinery Co. The trimmers offer fully automated book-of-one production trimming with the new Txe and TxL control systems. Utilizing barcodes printed on the book block, job dimensions are sent to the trimmer for complete setup.
GMG Americas will introduce the latest version of its color proofing software, GMG ColorProof 5.1.1. Jobs can easily be uploaded to a FTP server, and then printed remotely at the location of choice. GMG CalibrationSet and ProofStandard technology guarantees identical color results at host and remote locations.
A new "plug-n-play" creasing and micro-perforating cartridge for web presses will be introduced by Technifold USA. It is designed for web printers looking to eliminate costly, time-consuming off-line scoring, folding or micro-perforating operations. Technifold's Web Creaser uses Tri-Creaser technology to eliminate fiber cracking in any grain direction. PI
