Intech Printing Wins Environmental Award
NAPLES, FL—For outstanding efforts to reduce waste and protect the environment, Intech Printing & Direct Mail was a winner in the 2009 Waste Reduction Awards Program (WRAP) sponsored by the Collier County Waste Management Board—Florida's leading authority on recycling and waste reduction.
The WRAP awards honor businesses for cutting the amount of trash they produce, conserving resources and reducing waste disposal in landfills. Examples of qualifying strategies include partnering with another agency to reuse waste materials, increasing capture of recyclable materials from zero to 100 percent and incorporating innovative methods of collection and/or processing of recyclable materials.
SFI Releases New Forests Standard
WASHINGTON, DC—The Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI) has released a new standard, SFI 2010-2014, that includes several revisions.
It supports a comprehensive, independent certification program that works with environmental, social and industry partners to promote responsible forest management in North America and responsible fiber sourcing worldwide.
Major revisions to the standard include:
• Improving conservation of biodiversity in North America and offshore, and addressing emerging issues such as climate change and bioenergy.
• Strengthening SFI fiber sourcing requirements, which broaden the practice of sustainable forestry in North America and avoid unwanted offshore sources.
• Complementing SFI activities aimed at avoiding controversial or illegal offshore fiber sources, and embrace Lacey Act amendments to prevent illegal logging.
• Expanding requirements for logger training and support for trained loggers and certified logger programs.
The new standard took effect on January 1.
