Hearst Media Services to Lay Off 72 Production Workers in Connecticut
BRIDGEPORT, CT—December 29, 2014—The Hartford Courant reports that Hearst newspapers plans to lay off 72 employees here this coming February. The jobs eliminated will be in the production department, mostly related to inserting advertisements, and will include 16 full-time and 56 part-time positions.
The Hartford Courant Media Group plans to take over Hearst's insert work, along with limited advance printing for the group's Connecticut daily papers, which include the Connecticut Post, The News-Times of Danbury, The Advocate of Stamford and Greenwich Time. These four papers will continue to be printed in Bridgeport, where the layoffs are to take place.
Henry Haitz III, Hearst Connecticut Media Group president and group publisher, said the transition was "an effort to lower costs, without impact to our readers and advertisers as we navigate a rapidly changing digital frontier."
