Heidelberg Emphasizes Systematic Savings in Packaging Segment
• Large-format prepress, press and postpress solutions
• Systematically fast makereadies
• High press speeds
• State-of-the-art in automation and digital control based on Heidelberg’s XL family platform
Heidelberg’s sustained commitment to the packaging market is further evidenced by its multi-million-dollar investment in Hall 11 in Wiesloch, Germany, as well as by Heidelberg’s 40,000-square-foot, multi-use North American Print and Packaging Technology Center in Kennesaw, GA, which hosts a dedicated demonstration area for packaging equipment.
Productivity: Nothing Accidental About It
First among key design criteria for Heidelberg’s press and postpress packaging portfolio is productivity, which it achieves by building in the shortest makereadies, the highest speeds, enhanced ergonomics, and the highest availability. On the press side, unique XL performance features include Heidelberg’s Prinect Press Center with Intellistart; in-line Lab color measurement; automatic plate-changing in less than two minutes with AutoPlate XL; speeds up to 18,000 sph; enhanced ergonomics for easy maintenance; and fully integrated Star peripherals. Heidelberg’s XL VLF series features parallel wash-up of the inking unit, blanket and impression cylinders.
In packaging postpress, Heidelberg leads the way with a full line of die cutting and folding & gluing equipment. These include the 41” Dymatrix 106-CSB Pro with speeds to 9,000 sph and lateral registration to the printed mark; and the 57” Dymatrix 145-CSB, capable of speeds to 8,000 sph, with sheet registration at every station, automatic pallet changing at the infeed and delivery, and fast tooling changes. For folding and gluing, Heidelberg offers the highly productive Diana X 115 range, with a maximum belt speed of 650 m/min, easy automated setup, and flexible, modular configurations to suit your requirements.
Format size represents yet another key advantage. Just as Heidelberg moved the standard sheet size from 40” to the 41” with the introduction of its XL family Speedmaster XL 105 and Dymatrix 106-CSB die cutter, it currently leads a similar transformation in the VLF market with the 57” Speedmaster XL 145 press and Dymatrix 145-CSB. In an internal study, Heidelberg found that both the XL 145 and Dymatrix 145 yielded better than 10 percent more blanks per sheet – reducing run length and increasing capacity by the same 10.3% over the standard 56” format.
Designed for Savings
“Systematic savings” from Heidelberg assures you that no matter which Heidelberg product you choose in a given market segment—including packaging—it will be among the most efficient and productive pieces of equipment you can buy. Heidelberg makes savings systematic by looking at the entire makeready process and by eliminating, automating and synchronizing steps for greater productivity, efficiency and ease of use.
