Mid-York Press Seals the Deal with ECO 80 and ECO 105 Folding Carton Gluers from Heidelberg
Almost 25 years ago, The Mid-York Press, Inc. predicted that packaging would be the future of the printing industry. In 1982, the shop owners decided to focus almost entirely on packaging. That focus has fared well for the Mid-York Press, Inc., which now produces highly specialized cartons for the pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries. The 180-year-old shop recently installed Heidelberg’s ECO 80 and ECO 105 folding carton gluers. President and CEO Bob Tenney said he purchased Heidelberg equipment “because of the reliable history” he has with Heidelberg, as well as Heidelberg’s service and equipment package. “We look for several criteria when buying new equipment, including workability,” he said. The ECO 80 and 105 are smaller models that satisfy the shop’s needs without requiring the operators to reach or stretch, thereby increasing safety. “The digital capabilities and delivery make everything go smoothly,” Tenney added. Heidelberg’s ECO 80 and 105 folding carton gluers are equipped with electronic, blank-dependent control of the compression and delivery section speed. With the new solutions in place, The Mid-York Press can now run jobs 35 to 100 percent faster. The makeready time, which is especially important with the shop’s short-run jobs, has decreased by 30 to 50 percent. The Sherburne, N.Y. shop has 75 employees.
