HAUPPAUGE, N.Y.—August 12, 2015—National as well as regional content providers have long depended on Hess Print Solutions (HPS) to continuously produce large volume books and catalogs that reflect such disciplines as education, consumer goods, finance, medical and insurance. Recently, HPS invested in an all-new Corona C18 from Muller Martini in order to expand its capabilities and satisfy growing production demands.
After thoroughly evaluating a host of competitive machines, HPS selected Muller Martini's Corona C18 perfect binder to replace two legacy Muller machines. Chris Kurtzman, president and CEO of Bang Printing, Hess' parent company, explained. "We purchased the Corona C18 because it features the cutting-edge binding technology that achieves a higher net output," he said. "When it's installed in September 2015, we expect a significant increase in our production throughput, shortened set-ups and provide us with a lot more operator efficiency. Plus, built into these benefits will be the proven reliability of a Muller machine that we've come to expect over the years."
Among the many reasons why the Corona C18 will deliver a competitive edge for HPS are:
- Rapid and simple operation. The machine's easy-to-operate Book Data Center (BDC) enables centralized job data entry for the entire perfect binding line, resulting in nearly error-free precision. What's more, fine adjustments can be done on the fly as the machine is running.
- Faster set-ups. Reproducible settings are achieved with highly precise servomotors, saving data for repeat jobs which can then be called up at any time, further reducing make-readies.
- Flexibility. The Corona C18 easily handles a variety of format ranges and can change from one gluing method to another within minutes.
- Excellent quality control. ASIR3, Muller's proprietary signature recognition system, ensures error-free production from first book to last.
In addition, the Corona C18 at the HPS facility will be specially equipped with a "lay flat" enhancement which ensures end users added convenience when accessing reference-like products, such as cookbooks and medical titles.
Hess Print Solutions also invested in Muller Martini's operational improvement program MMInspect in order to increase the efficiency of an existing 2001 Corona line. "We're always looking for ways to achieve maximum productivity, even with our legacy equipment," commented Kurtzman. "Muller Martini consistently helps us keep all of our Muller equipment running as efficiently as possible." He added, "We continue to choose Muller Martini because its R&D is first-rate, and that means we can provide our customers with some of the best technology-driven binding solutions possible, not just today but in the future."
