EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. — July 21, 2016 — IBIS Bindery Systems, Ltd. met sales goals at drupa by receiving multiple Smart-binder orders at the show. The IBIS Smart-binder is reported to be the most sophisticated system for producing variable-data saddle-stitched or cold-glued booklets from a digitally-printed web or cut-sheet input.
IBIS received Smart-binder orders at the show from customers in Australia, Spain, and the U.S. Trend Offset, a large commercial and digital printer based in the Los Angeles area with plants in Texas and Florida, ordered a fully-configured Smart-binder SB-3 Plus HS saddle-binding system for its West Division plant in Los Alamitos, Calif. The system has an option to add in-line perfect-binding at a later date. Trend combines both offset and digital print technology to serve the magazine, catalog, direct mail, and retail print markets nationwide.
Trend CEO Aaron Day and his team had recently invested in a Canon ImageStream 2400 web inkjet press capable of running at 525 feet-per-minute. The company needed a digital finishing solution that could produce VDP booklets with 100% booklet integrity, and that could also be "scaled up" to offer inline prefect binding. The IBIS Smart-binder Plus was the answer. The Smart-binder has had great success since its introduction in 2005, with installations at both offset and digital printers, in-plants, and government agencies.
